I brought up her possible retirement a couple of weeks ago. I've got a handful of years on her, so I'm a little further into the "What do I want to do in my remaining years?" train of thought.
Her family mostly is her athletes. The time with thrm would tend to keep her coaching.
But she has her mother, to whom she seems close. She may want to be there for her mother. Or, like too many of us, knows being constantly close would be stressful.
Tara leaving now would be good for Kate. That may be the deciding factor. Kate would start on the crest of a wave that she helped catch. I doubt there is very much Kate needs to learn from Tara at this point.
What would Tara do if she retired? I doubt she'd go into broadcasting. I strongly doubt she'd stay at home with her dogs and play piano. More likely, she'd be some sort of emissary for the game. Perhaps tutoring coaches around the country, or consulting for teams. I think she could easily do that for the rest of the years she might be able to work.
Jody Conradt didn't go out on top in 2007. She's on NCAA committees to this day. A few years ago, I was at a UTexas fan club meeting with the players, and she was visiting
As much as Tara wants to go on teaching, I bet she doesn't want to slide down a slippery slope. I can hear the questioning of whether it is worth it in regards to how hard COVID was. Yes, virtually everyone will be vaccinated by next season, but the effectiveness against the variants is still not demonstrated.
I'd say there is at least 60% chance that she'll retire.
