Once we go to match play, though, the scores from the championship play are thrown out, and we will be matched with the 8th place team. If we win, we would get paired up with the 4/5 winner, and if we make it to the final, it would be against whoever emerges from the other side of the bracket.

The surprise result so far was the play of USC. They beat Stanford by 5 shots to win Pac 12s, were ranked in the top 10 and have a ton of NCAA experience. But they finished 23rd out of 24 teams, 61(!) shots behind Stanford. Needless to say, they missed the cut for the final round. This year will break the Trojans' streak of qualifying for match play every year. The only other school to qualify for match play every year - Stanford.

The other surprise was the other USC. The #1 ranked team in the country eeked into the cut after finishing the first day in last place. They start the day six strokes out of match play.

That's not a good thing, is it?
Don't the golf cognoscenti think that South Carolina has the horses/talent to beat Stanford in match play setting?
I was hoping they would not make it, or if they did, that Stanford would not have to play them out of the gate.
