Fascinating interview. I remember wondering what was going on in the London Olympics (2012). We were there and saw every single one of the games the US played in. Geno was the coach and Parker was outstanding, at times clearly the star of the team, when she was on the floor, and that when is important. As I recall, she wasn't a starter, maybe for any of the games. Not sure about that, but certainly not for a lot of them. It didn't make sense to me, but after seeing this interview, I understand better. I wondered at the time if it was a Geno/Parker dynamic at issue. Now I'd conclude, it probably was.
Interesting comment that you don't have to like someone to play for him/her. Parker really displays a lot of maturity. But apparently if he/she is the coach and doesn't like you, he/she may not give you a chance to play. Good for Parker for speaking up for Nneka -- a woman that she knows really well as a player, knows how good she is from being her teammate for so many years.
