Interesting comment: “Mills made progress toward his NFL goal during his final two seasons at Stanford, but his resume still looked incomplete. His decision to leave school early and enter the draft was a bit surprising, but Mills said the pandemic played role in his decision. The coronavirus protocols in Santa Clara County, he said, made him unsure if Stanford would have spring practice or an offseason that would allow him to keep improving.”

Sounded like Covid was, at the very least, the last straw. Made his decision far less agonizing, I'm sure.

I'm glad Mills left early. It would have sucked to have had a player his caliber be forced to play with the weak team Stanford fielded in 2021.
You could say he might have lifted the team. Maybe, but the defense was atrocious, the OL Charmin soft, and the WRs were wiped out. Would have been tough for him to improve his status with so little to support his development.

He also could have got hurt, as McKee did, and in Mills case that could have been more serious and would have at the very least highlighted his injury history. It also wasn't a given that there would even BE a 2021 football season. Taking all these risks just would make no sense.

Big Mills fan here. I'm with the guy who said in and earlier post that he had hoped SF would draft a corner or OL and pick Mills in the 3rd round to understudy JG. Would have been a better spot for him ultimately methinks so long as the weird leadership group in Houston remains.
