Will the Pac schools ever stop spitting the bit against SEC teams? What in the hell is Utah doing throwing a pick from the UF 6, on 2nd down and Goal, with less than 30 secs left, down 3?!?!?!?

Only watched about 5 or 6 minutes of actual game time, but did see the last 3 minutes, enough to see Utah is Florida's physical equal, and at minimum that game should have gone to OT. Pac teams always seem to find a way to lose late in these big matches against SEC teams. Given how dreadful the Pac is otherwise, Utah had to win that game to be a CFP contender. Brutal loss on heels of last brutal loss in Rose Bowl against Ohio State.

As an aside, I was right that my passion for college football is dead.  I still am interested in it, but Notre Dame and Ohio State couldn't keep my attention. Happened to see the go-ahead Ohio State TD, then didn't tune in the rest of the game. Historically, would have been glued to the screen. I found myself more entertained reading the board game threads of Stanford and Cal than even bothering to look at the box scores, let alone finding a way to watch or listen to radio.  I love the game, but hate the administration of it and hope I'm not the only one tuning out.

Did they have any TO’s  left?  If so, I definitely run once.  Maybe QB draw.  I’f no TO’s I’m still thinking about running as I can spike it.

Their were two Florida defenders in front of his receiver. His receiver had fallen, so he had to throw it low. The ball was actually behind the receiver, so he had no chance to catch it. Utah had 3 receivers crossing in the middle of the field at different depths of the end zone. Utah had one receiver running out left that was well covered. IMHO, not a well designed play because it sucked all the defenders into the same area. If the QB had waited he MIGHT have has a guy running left to right that would have been open. Hard to know because him throwing attracted defenders. Throw it away and try again.

Only other ranked team was #14 USC.  With the Notre Dame, Utah and Oregon losses, my guess is USC ends up at #11 or so. We'll be playing the top ranked Pac-12 team, I expect.

This is exactly my point. You just can't throw a high risk pass on 2nd down and Goal with so much riding on the play. Maybe on 3rd, but you are kicking a FG for OT if you don't get TD on 3rd down, so high risk passes probably aren't a great idea in that situation period. Needs to be a "if my guy can't catch it nobody can passes on 2nd down.  I've no love for Utah, but do respect Whittingham and hate seeing teams like Utah blow big opportunities tee'd up for them, especially against an SEC team.

crimson, it's real simple. You don't win a game by throwing a pick down 3 from opponent 6 yard line with less than 30 secs to play. Goose and I made clear it wasn't throwing a pass that was the problem, it was the pass thrown and the decision to make it that was the problem.

You know what made clear Utah was the equal of Florida physically? It was Utah's fantastic pass protection and usual strong defense for most part. Utah is typically great in the trenches and their TEs are very good, but they just don't have the top level outside receivers needed to get to the top of the college football heap. They can compete at the top but don't have a large margin for error against top teams.

When did I ever say anything about not caring about college football? I specifically said I'm interested, but my passion for it is gone. I hope to get it back when the market rejects its wayward path  - hence hoping others stop watching too - and it organizes itself into something I can again be passionate about.

Calling a QB draw with a terrific running QB is not settling.  But agree mostly on Rising. Should have thrown it away.

poorly designed and poorly executed. wide receiver #21 is aggressively blocking the deep defensive back in the area more than 5 yards downfield just before the pass is thrown. i believe that's an illegal pick, technically offensive holding. pretty flagrant on the replay though it didn't get called.  (at least in the nfl it's not legal, not sure about ncaa)

Utah had 3 receivers crossing in the middle of the field at different depths of the end zone. Utah had one receiver running out left that was well covered. IMHO, not a well designed play because it sucked all the defenders into the same area. If the QB had waited he MIGHT have has a guy running left to right that would have been open. Hard to know because him throwing attracted defenders. Throw it away and try again.

poorly designed and poorly executed. wide receiver #21 is aggressively blocking the deep defensive back in the area more than 5 yards downfield just before the pass is thrown. i believe that's an illegal pick, technically offensive holding. pretty flagrant on the replay though it didn't get called.  (at least in the nfl it's not legal, not sure about ncaa)
