As someone who was in the stands for the 2012 Fiesta Bowl, I happened to watch the end of the Missouri-Auburn game with bemusement.
The situation: Score tied 14 all, Missouri with the ball, less than two minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Mizzou WR catches a 39 yard pass at the Auburn 3 with 1:01 left. All time outs left. So, what do you think the Mizzou coach calls? Yep, a run that loses a few to center the ball. Auburn burns the last time out. Mizzou then runs another up the center for no gain, lets the clock run down to 0:02, then calls time out.
Out trots their kicker for a 26 yarder, and pushes it right. (Not sure if he was hyperventilating prior).
Of course, Auburn wins 17-14 in OT when the Mizzou RB named Nathaniel Peat fumbles away the ball on their possession.
