That was my first reaction. I never thought Cal was all that well known for its luxurious housing. It is entirely possible that moving from Tennessee to Stanford was a very big step down in terms of housing, and that the grass was not as green at Stanford as he expected.

Was on Alabama's campus for the first time in years over the holidays. Many student housing facilities and the greek system have been substantially updated, and in many instances, completely rebuilt. They are stunning, at least from the outside. A quick perusal of what's offered for athletes is pretty amazing. I'd imagine Tennessee is close to that level. Stanford, I think, has significantly upgraded housing since I was last there in the early 80's, and imaging many are very nice, too. Who knows how close to the level for SEC athletes, though.
That said, do we really want an athlete to whom his or her living facilities are a key factor?
