Basically, he (Dennis Dodd) thinks UW and NikeU end up in Big 10 and we end up one of the four leftovers, along with Cal, OSU and Wazzu, trying to hook up with SMU, SDSU, and whatever other Mountain West teams (Boise, Fresno, etc) will have us.

He remains strangely optimistic about Stanford, saying our presence in other (non-revenue) sports is a big factor in attracting partners/conferences.

I once thought anything other than a Power conference affiliation means we should be looking at FCS instead, like the Ivies.  But the only other FCS programs in our time zone are Cal Poly, Davis, Sac State, Portland St and Eastern Washington.  Might as well drop FB if we're gonna settle for that kind of media footprint, IMHO.

You should include University of Idaho in that list.  They just stepped down from FBS and are a brobdingnagian rivalry school for Boise State, WSU and Eastern Washington.  Adding them would make a very heavy inland northwest conference with not great winter weather.  Not an attractive option.

You should include University of Idaho in that list.  They just stepped down from FBS and are a brobdingnagian rivalry school for Boise State, WSU and Eastern Washington.  Adding them would make a very heavy inland northwest conference with not great winter weather.  Not an attractive option.

Nobody seems to talk about Oregon and Washington having to bring OSU and WSU along, which would likely keep them out of the B1G. Stanford's ties to Cal are mostly "sentimental" and with UCLA propping up Cal, it may be time to separate.

That said, the four California schools do belong together, and adding Stanford and Cal would increase the frequency of trips out west for the rest of the B1G.

Besides, if there are two schools that don't fit in the Big12, they are Stanford and Cal.

I think talk of forcing UW to take WSU along or Oregon taking OSU along is all that, until the B1G dangles a gazillion dollars in front of the school, and the realization is that changing conferences can be a boon to both schools.  Like the noise made by the UC regents after UCLA moved over, it's all talk.  I expect if UW or UO are offered, they will bolt in a nanosecond, and pay off whoever from their respective in state partner in order to get there.  And, despite the noise from OSU and WSU alums, they will be largely powerless to stop the flow of money.
