Title is kind of a joke but we did lose an assistant. Britney Anderson is moving along to Illinois. No idea if her choice (probably was) or if this was a staff shake up sort of thing.

Very very interesting. Caused by the drama or a promotion or ??
Hope Jeanette is the new assistant

Best of luck to Coach Andersen in her new job. I never really got the sense she was a perfect fit for Tara's staff. I think the players really liked her.
Hope we find a great candidate. I think Jeanette is also deserving.

Let’s get real shall we? You can’t have an all white staff. Hopefully Tara is stepping down and all the coaches are soon exiting. They now need to think about Noelle Quinn as a head coach, or one of the two UCLA assistants as head coach.
I am not a fan of Anderson but she seems better than Kate or Steding to me in terms of relationship with players

A VT parent told me how the kids loved her there, so not surprised that our players liked her. Interesting that she coached the guards, and those players were underwhelming as a group. Understood that JP may be perfect, but our lack of diversity will jump off the page unless there is at least one other change in favor of a diverse candidate.

A retread of one of the dead leaves off Tara’s coaching tree? No thanks
Tara doesn’t have the worst coaching tree but it’s not great. None of the legends really produce great coaches. Brenda Frese produced Jeff Wahl. Muffet produced Kevin McGuff. Those two may be the best coaching trees.

Britney Anderson to Illinois
Britney Anderson Announced as Illinois Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach - University of Illinois Athletics (fightingillini.com)
University of Washington WBB just recruited 6'4 Annika Soltau from Germany. Apparently, some overseas bigs are still out there. Will Stanford attempt to recruit one considering there is no post help on the bench? Fascinating.
annika soltau on Twitter: "100% committed? I’m excited and blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Washington! This is only the beginning of an exciting chapter of my life. Go dawgs!? https://t.co/bfh2KyZBBO" / Twitter

I have been inclined to wait and see how Tara responds to this last season - I've seen her pull a rabbit out of a hat more than once. I have great respect for her track record. But there comes the point when history is no longer a good predictor of the future, and I sense that we are at that point. I'm agreeing that it may be time for Tara to retire - for many reasons that the rest of you have explained very well. Britney's exit seems to reinforce the opinion that the chemistry of Tara/ student players/ coaching staff is in bad shape.

I disagree. I think Tara should be the only one to decide when to retire and I’m not ready to see her retire. I actually would like to see her leave with breaking the record of most wins in college basketball. Also, Brit leaving could simply be that Stanford after a few years wasn’t the right fit for her. She’s had long term coaches and some that have left for various reasons. I do believe some players opted to leave due to not being guaranteed a role or playing time next season. Tara has never promised or guaranteed playing time even while recruiting. I agree last season was not great, but it wasn't horrible. I feel it was an underachieving season, but at the same time they won a lot of games against a lot of great teams. Also, can’t blame it on officiating, but it can dictate how games are played. I sat on the visitor bench side of games all season and Dawn Staley and Ole Miss coach definitely got in the refs ears and the way the games were called changed very quickly. Stanford didn’t play to their potential, we all know that. But to discount everything, is silly.
I had to post and get it out. Yes I’m very disappointed with the transfers, but happy for those that choose to stay and represent a team I have loved since 1997!

There were posts and comments re this in the 2023-24 WBB thread. Should those be moved here?
04-21-2023, 10:38 AM
At least one separate thread on the departure was already moved into that thread, and another deleted.
I think I'll just leave this one separate so more new threads on the news don't get started
[Technical point: Threads are always in chronological order, so if we move older posts to a newer thread, the oldest one becomes the start of the thread. Of course we can edit that one so the new thread has a proper title, etc.]

I think the WBB 2023-2024 Season thread encompasses all of these discussions and recommend we re-establish that thread.

Doesn't that thread still exist? I was just responding to the fact that this thread re Brittany was established, and it seemed to me that we needed to either have it all in the WBB 2023-24 thread, or get the Brittany things moved to this thread. One or the other -- not to have one new thread with things that are already in another thread. I'm simple minded, like to have things that belong together all in one place.

It does exist, but we had posts in four different threads about this, so seemed better to consolidate under a single heading, especially since this is a bit more newsworthy than some of the drips and drabs we discuss in the 2023-2024 thread. (Plus now that she's leaving, she won't be part of next season anyway!)
