1-Tara and her staff's ability to land elite or 2nd. tier players for 2024?
2-The possibility that one or more of our three freshmen might transfer?
3-The possibility that some of our sophomores and juniors may also jump ship?
4-On a positive note, would this perhaps give Tara more of an incentive to recruit high-quality HS players from overseas?
Uncertainty doesn’t help recruiting matters. Stanford needs to find a conference home and soon. Will elite recruits chose Stanford only to end up playing in the Mountain West or some other mid level conference. I don’t see that as a selling point. Stanford WBB needs to play in a competitive conference to continue to be competitive on a national stage (Final 4s and competing for National Championships). If that doesn’t happen, I see a major drop off in Stanford’s ability to be competitive and relevant nationally.
Without a positive outcome (Big10 or Big12 invite), this could expedite Coach Vanderveers retirement even sooner. This may be her last season coaching, IMO. Things were already quickly going south with NIL and the portal, here’s one more dagger to the heart.
Stanford's WCBB as a powerhouse program is truly remarkable
for a Top 3/Top 5 university in the USA and in the world.
Of course, same can be said of its WCVB program,
even in a more superlative way.
WCBB:
15 FFs and 3 National Championships.
The longest timespan between 1st (1990) and most recent (2021) National Championship.
The longest timespan between 1st (1990) and most recent (2022) Final Four appearance.
And this is Tara VANDERVEER's baby!
And we are all blessed to be fans.
Just being nostalgic about it, which may soon come to an end....
WCVB:
23 FFs and 9 National Championships,
Oh boy! Truly amazing!
So between WCVB and WCBB,
that's a combined 38 FFs and 12 National Championships!
To be a non-Stanford graduate fan of both for 33 years is just heavenly!
