On the subject of Rutgers (and Maryland) in the B1G, that was one of the more ridiculous moves that the conference made.  I assume it was a vain hope to benefit from all the television sets & media coverage in NYC & DC, but AFAIK none of that ever panned out,  and the conference is forever stuck with the two schools.

Rutgers has never really had a TV following. I grew up in NJ. Our high school team was the Scarlet Knights. I don't think I've ever seen a Rutgers football game on TV.  Never crossed my mind. I do recall seeing some Stanford games while I was growing up.
