These 100+ year-old articles always reveal something interesting from the time period. For example, Chicago's quarterback, Frank Hering, thought the referee was favoring Stanford...so he punched him. And the referee -- who doubled as the coach of Reliance AC in San Francisco punched him back. Police intervened, the game went on. Stanford lost that game, but won the next game vs. Chicago four days later, and Reliance AC beat Chicago three days after that game.
