Stanford softball starts its journey in ACC play with a disappointing loss at Georgia Tech. The Cardinal blew a 4-0 lead to lose 5-4. Still have a chance to pick up the series win, but an error and two bases loaded walks leading to 2 Tech runs are the difference today.
In other softball news, Texas Tech lost to, and I can't believe I am typing this, Idaho State. Canady didn't pitch, but the vaunted Red Raiders offense wasted nine hits to lose 3-2.

Actually Stanford pulled off a 1-2-5-4 double play when ahead 4-1. I watched the game and still don’t get why it was disallowed and the batter awarded first base. Catchers interference maybe

Thanks for the context Bob. We have a very solid team that I think will be a very tough matchup in a regional (currently we would be borderline between hosting a regional and being a #2 regional seed). The pitching does need to improve on the 64 free passes (HBP + BB) in 84 innings of work. We are giving at-bats, runs, and games away with stats like that.

The announcers seemed to think that the 3rd baseman was called for interference/blocking the bag on the tag play.

Yes the announcers were guessing that but they showed the replay many times and this old umpire says no way.

Georgia Tech scored all 5 of its runs in the 5th inning. GT got just 2 hits, but Stanford walked 4 and committed an error.

Exactly, we hae given up too many free trips to first and doing it with bases loaded just makes it worse. Might as well given them something to swing at and at least make them hit it somewhere we can't catch it.

Ironically, over the course of a series, the offense tends to tire more than the pitching. So Game 3 of a series is very frequently very low scoring.
