Loyola beat USF 77-76. If Stanford can get it going (trailing early 17-12) they could get one more home game.

We really need to get it going. Raynaud taking the shots they want him to take (long and off-target treys). Their aggressive defense seems to be hurrying our players into bad decisions.
Not again. Zebra is calling nonexistent falls on us.
Doesn’t help that Reynaud refuses to go under the hoop.

we can tie the game, but we can't build a lead. and we can let Kent State build a lead. c'mon Stanford!
(yeah, the refs are terrible.)
Raynaud just picked up a foul for a well-sold performance. The refs are nuts.
Bunch of calls going against Stanford/Maxime. Gotta keep the heads cool. Only down five now. Great score by Sellers.

Thank you to the entire program for an entertaining (if sometimes frustrating) ride! I like the trajectory we’re on.

Agree 100%. If anyone had told me last fall that MBB would play post-season games, I would have laughed. Kudos to Kyle Smith for player development and game plans that made the best use of each player’s skills. And bravo to the players for following through on his coaching. Most entertaining MBB season in many years.

Overall I can't complain about the season and I'm looking forward to Stanford development.
Can somebody explain to me why we walk the ball up the court when we're behind in the closing minutes?

Given our propensity for losing the handle on drives and while posting up during this game, it was probably a good thing not to rush that part of the game...but your point is well taken. Lot of question marks about how and what the team executed while we were down.

Some things are just not logical to me (although it may make sense to the coaches). Besides the walking the ball while trailing, I also get confused on why you leave a player with 4 fouls (Cammann tonight) on the court when you are in foul mode.
He ended up with the foul and his night was over. Why not bring in Thompson or Young to commit the foul and then substitute them out when they go to the line? Why does Young start and doesn't go back in when he's substituted?
Kent State had 3 players 6'2" or shorter in the starting lineup. Their tallest player was 6'8", and they still outrebounded us. How did this happen?
Unfortunately, too many players were off tonight. Benny and Ryan missed all their 3 pointers. Max had a poor first half. Okpara was the most consistent offensively in my opinion. If it weren't for all the missed FTs, Blakes would have had an ever a better night. The misses really hurt.

Kent State players were faster in general. They established position sooner (anticipation) and jumped for rebounds with great energy and sticky hands. The game slowed down for them. They also got away with a lot of BS "defense" that should have been called.
Ah what could have been. But it was a good season.

Fun while it lasted.
All the local teams are out. Both SJSU and USF lost to Loyola (73-70 and 77-76), SCU lost to UAB (87-84), Stanford lost to Kent State, 77-75. All games decided by three or fewer points.

Has anyone ever said (on this board or elsewhere) “You know, the refs gave us the game”
Statistically speaking, we ought to end up winning close to as many because of the refs as they cost us, but no one is ever thankful when the refs help the team.

Stanford could not stop Jared Sullinger. 34 points, 8 rebounds (he's 5'10"!), 5 assists, 3 steals. 0 turnovers. He was by far the best player on the court last night. A main reason that Kent won and Stanford lost.

Sullinger's defense was definitely foul-worthy at times, and two quick ones in the first half would have limited his damage there.

Hey, that's no fun.
When you win it is always because of the excellence of your players.
When you lose (especially in a close game) it's because of the incompetence of the refs.
Always has been that way, and I suspect it always will be.

He's super quick, amazing 3-point shooter off moves, good passer. Fun to watch unless he's carving up your favorite team.
