Gulbranson-awful, not a power five QB by any stretch. 5-6 throws that were Jack West/Josh Nunes territory.
Washington(corner transfer), not a power five boundary player. Burnt by Jackson Harris on 4+ occasions.

This team isn’t winning more than 2 games, and there is little to zero light at the end of the tunnel quite frankly.
You could see the difference in Williams and High vs Ayomanor and Mosley to be obvious… the former being players that should be 4-5 on your depth chart in the ACC.
Roush, NFL player? Lots of physical guys that can block out there…four years in and still zero hands.

I agree with Farm Team. 91 made a dumb play, even for a Yale grad. But this game, like so many last year was lost by bad QB play and play calling that failed to recognize just how limited our QB is . Many good things ..Micah Ford is a warrior, but this is a classic tough loss.

I can’t think of more than 2-3 players on this squad that a serious power five team would want.

Unfortunately this is not a P4 roster or anywhere close. And other than two super cool comebacks back in the day, Frank Reich is not some sort of magician.
Winless to the playoff in three years would be a cool story for the next guy, though. That speculation may be all we get this fall. BYU should roll this team in Provo.

This football program goes against everything Stanford is supposed to be, no big splashes, little monetary commitment, another lame duck head coach, a qb that while respectfully wants to be a doctor , has zero aspirations beyond this season.

We didn't look great and I'm upset we didn't pull it out, but this is pretty close to what I expected. Gulbranson was not good but not as horrible as some are saying, in my opinion. Way better than Brown looked in limited time last year (low bar unfortunately).
Hawaii may just have an awful D-line, but pass and run protection looked improved, which would be brobdingnagian. We'll find out in 2 weeks if we are actually OK on the line.
I thought offensive play calling was pretty good and seemed to match our capabilities. The pass over the middle to Holt on 3rd down when the defense was selling out against the run was great.
I am neither discouraged nor encouraged relative to expectations before the game. But man, it would have been nice to have a win under our belts to build some momentum (even if undeserved). Brutal.

Also, wasn’t he under 51 yards at the half? I mean by all accounts he was horrible today… and it wasn’t like Hawaiis defensive line is Georgia…

I feel like this thread is overly pessimistic.
Sure the QB play today was bad. Either it was nerves and Gulbranson will bounce back or someone else will step up. Brown, Jackson or Rizk. There is no way the QB battle that not one of those three can't step in to play.
Better QB play and we win. Emmett Kennedy FG doesn't get blocked and we likely win.
The O-Line and RB play was great today. The roadmap to winning is clear and we're going to see a return to Stanford style football this year.
My biggest concern was the defense. Lots of big plays given up to a one legged QB. The competition likely only get stiffer there.
BC, UVA, SJSU, Pitt, CAL and UNC are all winable games imo.
Sure it'll be nice when the talent level improves but you can see the roadmap and trajectory of where this program is going. Let's just enjoy the moment and these kids who have decided to stick around at Stanford after all the turmoil the last 4 years.

Last year he was a true freshman and had some injury time, maybe you can give him the benefit of the doubt. This year he's not on the field (one game so far). Does he not show up well in practice, is the staff underestimating him, is there something else going on?

We weren't expected to win this game. The Vegas line was Stanford +2.5. Right on the nose.
Yes we had a chance to win. I don't blame 91. There were any number of plays that might have changed the outcome...the blocked field goal, the interception, the D stopping either of Hawaii's two long drives at the end, the D not giving up 45 yards in penalties that last drive, Reich calling running plays instead throwing on Stanford's last possession at least until there was no more than 30 seconds left on the clock, etc.
Some positives:
- first rushing touchdown in nearly two years
- first RB with a 100-yard rushing game since Micah Ford against Clemson last year
- only one delay of game penalty, which I think was intentional
- only one offensive holding penalty, which was declined and didn't change the outcome (I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought “offensive holding” every time the whistle blew.)
- a 9-minute run-first TD drive like we haven’t seen for almost a decade
I’m no Borg. I probably would have dropped my season tickets this year if Taylor were still the coach. Yet I had fun watching a game for the first time in a few years.
Ultimately we don't have the horses but at least the kids put up a fight.

Agree with cctop. I remember Gulbranson had looked decent for Oregon St. at least a few times the past couple years. He was way off today, maybe it was the subtropical conditions in Honolulu.
