Agreed. If she’s graduating this spring with her ND degree. I’m guessing this bonus year will be focused on finding a team that is Final 4 good and heavy on NIL money. Maybe USC (with Juju likely rehabbing all next year), LSU, or South Carolina would be my best guesses.

Why?  The pitch now is “come to [TCU] and be part of the transfer super-team we are assembling along with x, y, and a”.  Making a decision on the basis of “returning talent” is almost not relevant, since returning talent can depart and a depleted roster is just an opportunity to bring in more transfers.

Why?  The pitch now is “come to [TCU] and be part of the transfer super-team we are assembling along with x, y, and a”.  Making a decision on the basis of “returning talent” is almost not relevant, since returning talent can depart and a depleted roster is just an opportunity to bring in more transfers.

Don't disagree that there's a chance, but, if her goal is a championship, she will want to go to a team where the pieces are already in place and not go to a team that may or may not be able to get other pieces in place.

In today’s rules, it seems USC might cover those, and then she jumps to another school once she is healthy enough to play. We also have 3 juniors that play a ton of minutes and a SR point guard that started as freshman on a very talented roster. It starts and ends with coaching. I would say I've been somewhat disappointed yet again. I will be especially bummed if we miss out on the NCAA tourney again which is a real possibility at the moment.

Compared to last year, we’ve become less efficient offensively but much more efficient defensively.

We do have a fair bit of freshman time on the team.  Cumulatively they are responsible for 32% of the available minutes on the team, which is a fair bit, but this is still a junior oriented team (they are cumulatively responsible for about 47% of available minutes), so I think your critique is fair.  I would say that Agara has been good this year, but the last couple of games have been down games for her, which is a worrying signal.  Ogden probably showed the most improvement year-on-year, which is what you hope from someone with a lot of potential.  The complaint about expecting more out of Lepolo is a bit odd, given that most posters on this board want to see less of her, but I get the thrust that while we depend a fair bit on freshmen, we are not totally inexperienced.

I think falling short of a tourney, which as you point out is a real possibility, would make this a disappointing season.  We have made progress compared to last season, particularly on the (less glamourous) defensive side of the ball, and I do think that in the absence of someone like Brink who is a defensive eraser, solid team defense represents good coaching.  But I agree with the critiques about the offense, and it does seem like there is a “missing piece” in there that the coaches haven’t cracked.  Perhaps we had all hoped for a bit more out of Swain as a point guard or better use of our assets at the post (Agara and Somfai).  Perhaps that will come with time.

Stanford's WBB team not making the NCAA tourney two years in a row is simply unacceptable.  Thanks to Tara, Stanford has the winning reputation to attract the talent to be a top 25 team every year.  If we fall short again this season, KP should be fired because she either didn't pull in the talent needed or didn't coach well enough.  With two non-tourney seasons under her belt, it will be difficult for her to attract the players needed.  I hope she can turn it around in the next several weeks.

I thought Charmin out coached Kate last night.

Cal maneuvered to get wide open 3s against our vaunted scout defense while we pass and dribble around the perimeter and had difficulty getting 3s. Cal has lost several close games to top teams because they fade late in the game with a short bench. Instead of substituting to get fresh legs we kept the same players in almost the entire 4th & OT. Our team was tired and sluggish. We dribbled and passed the ball around and had numerous empty possessions. Then with time running out we no sense of urgency. We dribbled and passed the ball around. We didn’t press. We didn’t substitute so our starting players had to make fouls. At the end we had 4 of our top players in with 4 fouls each. We had the opportunity but did not substitute so Somfai - the player that made the 3 to send us to OT fouled out. 

I’m beginning to really lose confidence in Kate’s coaching ability.

Until her last few years, Tara didn’t have to deal with the transfer portal, but it started to bite a few years ago in ways that are affecting the current team (eg, Lauren Betts and Indya Nivar are starting at UCLA and UNC, respectively).  Until her last year here, Tara didn’t have to deal with other teams offering players 6 figure NIL deals.  That is the current reality, and until we know how the NIL/House settlement money settles out, any comparisons of recruiting, retention, and results between the pre-2020 state of affairs and the post-2025 state of affairs will be apples-to-oranges.

Don’t get me wrong, Paye may well not be the right person to follow Tara.  But I’m not ready to write her off either (even if we fail to make the tournament).
