The list above is shorter than I had anticipated based upon the physical pounding dished out by Utah.

Right.  Really only Williamson and KBK were hurt vs. Utah.  EJ slipped going down the tunnel at the end of the game (as reported by someone else here), and the rest were previously injured.

In the secondary, we lost Williamson and KBK but gained Bonner and STM.  KBK is the best player on our defense and probably our team, but at least some DBs are coming back from injury.

Unfortunately, QB eras don't last long at Stanford anymore.  We had the Luck era (2009-2011), then the Hogan era (mid-2012-2015), with a smattering of Nunes in between. That's essentially two QBs over a 7-year stretch.  This was followed by:

1) the Burns era (2016-mid-2016)
2) the Chryst era (mid-2016-mid-2017)
3) the Costello era (mid-2017-mid-2019)
4) the Mills era (mid-2019-2020)
5) the McKee era (2021-?)

That's 5 QBs in 6 years.  I don't think we are transitioning to the Patu era quite yet, but let's see how he does on Saturday.  I don't expect McKee to play.

Given the EJ injury, it sure seems to me some kind of surface that works with cleats should be put in the tunnel ASAP. I recall the noise cleats make on concrete and the inevitable slipping and sliding that goes with it. No excuse for Stanford not fixing this situation RTFN.

RE: Time for the Patu era - murky - 11-09-2021

Going with Patu gives me some hope.  I was surprised to see a pretty decent downfield pass last week in the 2nd half, and then I realized that Patu was in the game.  It wasn't caught.

Speaking of hope, I'd hoped the poster who said he'd witnessed Smith getting injured after the game was trolling.  Geez.

Patu looked good in the spring game too.  Honestly, after what we saw last week, I think I'd try Wade-Perry at QB if needed to change things up. Or let Sanders throw.

As for Smith, I reported that here after seeing it with my own eyes.  No trolling.  He was jogging off with no limp, then stopped to go back and high five a kid hanging over the railing.  He then slipped and went down hard as he turned to go back down the tunnel.  He was in obvious pain and was helped up by a teammate, and then put no weight on one foot as he was helped down the tunnel.  I have to assume that's why he's on the questionable list.

(shaking my head).

Sorry for doubting you.  I guess when it rains, it pours.

Hope Patu looks good, but didn't I read somewhere that he didn't even play football his senior year of HS because of the pandemic?
Perhaps he will be a good QB for us eventually, but expecting a lot out of him in this game is unrealistic.
Of course, given how the West/Sanders combo looked against Utah, there isn't a lot of downside in giving him a shot.

What, even more evidence having an offense that takes 2 years to learn is self-defeating and yet another example of inability to react to changing conditions?  Who could have ever guessed?

West was offered as a soph committed early and didn’t get much better after that

West is not even listed on the depth chart.  Is he out with injury?  Quit?  Banished?  In hiding?

Given they list two or three people per position (three at QB) I'd guess he's fourth (or lower) on the depth chart

If they made a bad decision on West they had plenty of company, even elite teams.
Check out his offer list some time.

I think the bad decision to which many on this board are referring is starting West against KState.

I'm not talking about the decision to offer him. I'm talking about the decision to start him Week 1. Frankly, the evaluation that he was anywhere near the same level as McKee.

RE: Time for the Patu era - vataha - 11-10-2021

A more effective offensive line would make all of our QB's that much better than what we have seen. Remember that when we are singling out or criticizing anyone behind center.
