Disgraceful. I resist calling for the firing of coaches because I try to accept my lack of expertise in most of the Stanford sports I passionately support. However, it is very clear based on nearly seven years of evidence that Haase is not up to the task. Unlike coaches in some other sports, Haase has never shown a high level of achievement at Stanford. He is apparently a great person and is trying to achieve but has many years of failure. It is, in my view, unquestionably time for him to go. I won't keep yelling on the Cardboard or printing tshirts saying he should be fired, but I will let the AD and administration know that the time has come to make a change and will adjust my contributions accordingly. I do so unhappily but will do what I think will have the biggest impact on those in power at Stanford.

I'm going to gently and smoothly slide Mark Madsen into my next coach possibilities mix. His Utah Valley Wolverines have joined the won-at-Oregon club and have as good a chance to emerge from the WAC as anyone except possibly Sam Houston State, who at the moment holds the aces and kings in that conference with road wins at Utah and Oklahoma.

The men's basketball situation is pathetic. Losing to a 2-13 Cal team by 22?! Good Lord! Haase is a decent recruiter, but he seems to be sorely lacking in the player-development, game-strategy, and in-game decision areas. Time for a new coach. Speaking of player development (or non-development), how can it be that five-star recruit Harrison Ingram is playing 26 minutes a game, shooting only 36% from the field, and averaging only 8.9 points a game?

Not just 3s (Cal was +9). Five more free throws and four more field goals overall. It was a straight up beatdown.

He's not been sick for the entire season. Those were season's stats I gave, not those from the last couple of days or weeks.

At this point Stanford is not a football school so the Big-10 won't take us. Stanford is not a MBB school so the ACC won't take us. Stanford is staying in the PAC-12. I'm fine with that. The fundamental problem with Stanford football and MBB is not the conference. My gross over-simplification.

Would LOVE to see Maddog back on our sideline. If not him, some other MBB alum would be ideal. I think the program needs someone with a really strong connection as well as better coaching chops.
I didn't expect anything better than the last six but I didn't think this season would be THIS bad.
However, I continue to oppose firing college coaches mid-season for on-court performance reasons.

Looks like I picked a very good weekend to go camping while forgetting to record the MBB game. Ugh.
As for Madsen, no way. He's in his fourth year as coach after assistant coaching under some big names, and his record has improved each year. But that was the exact same biography as Haase! No, thank you. I want a coach with a proven record of winning at some level, not one or two good years. EUTM is probably more valuable in football in basketball where all the EUTM in the world isn't going to make you a better shooter or run well-executed screens.

So who is on the short list for new coaches? Candidly, if Haase continues this trajectory over the next 2-3 weeks, I'm all for elevating one of his assistants in the interim. It would at least make the second half of the Pac12 schedule and tourney more interesting. We pretty much know what we are going to get if the AD stays the course. This is painful and the team has more talent than this....again.
