Only 1 ACC team advanced to Super Regionals - Duke. Of the 14 teams that have advanced, 8 are SEC with the potential for 1 or 2 more. It is theoretically possible that 6 or 7 of the 8 teams in the CWS are SEC.

Don't know if I "love" it. Only because it reminds me of how we should have hosted over Oregon (whom we had the H2H on and more Top 25 wins etc.). When 13 out of 16 hosts I think advanced, deciding to not give Stanford a host loomed large, even going up against a team we had already beaten twice.

Did Stanford lose the chance to host because of the scheduled concert?
True, the football stadium isn’t the softball stadium this year but maybe the softball world knows hosting a softball tournament at Stanford opposite a sold out stadium every day would be distracting at the very least.
Stanford set the priority of concert over softball hosting and is sticking to it.

Softball was definitely on the bubble 17-18 then playing weak cal So really doubt the concert had anything to do with hosting

Losing 0-9 to Florida State had more impact on Stanford's seeding than the BTS concert. Everyone knew that Florida State was a fraud. Even the selection committee knew that and gave them a somewhat disrespectful 9 seed. And they were proven correct.

BobK, you said “so many reasons to choose Stanford” (for hosting). Maybe 3 competing, stadium-filling concerts (again) scheduled long in advance of the season is one of the reasons not to choose Stanford.

Yes pitching was poor post season however our top two pitchers had ERA s of 2.9x. Zoe won 20 games about 200Ks. Houston recovered from a serious injury
If you only watched posted season our pitching was poor. However it shined for most of the season.

It was a good season, but not as good as we might have hoped. Really would have been nice to feature a senior Canady with this line-up. It’s a little sad that for two years we had the most dominant pitcher in college softball, but the lineup didn’t have enough juice to go all the way, and then we lost her to the portal as soon as the offense became explosive.

I think Stanford's catastrophic loss to Duke was a major factor in not being selected to host. Had Stanford won that game, they would have had a series win on the road over a top team. Instead Stanford gave up 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th to lose. Yes, they definitely needed pitching.

By the way, has there ever been any proposal to enlarge the field of play. Move the pitcher back to decrease pitching dominance, and in general allow the full grown adults to play the game on something a bit larger than a little league field?

I think the college softball pitcher, say, 6 feet tall, 160 lbs, is closer to home plate than the typical CardBoarder's 10 year old grandkid pitching in little league? No wonder it's hard to get the ball out of the infield.

Softball infields have 60-foot baselines and a pitching distance of 43 feet from the front of the pitcher's rubber to the back tip of home plate. Little League infields, at least for the LL World Series (the Majors or "U12" Division), have the same baselines but the pitcher's rubber is 46 feet from the rubber to the back of home plate. So yes, a college softball pitcher of any size is closer to home plate than a Little Leaguer.
Over 24 regular season conference games in 2026, Stanford as a team had a .339 BA/.432 OB%/.590 SLG%. That's a 1.022 OPS. Stanford scored 190 runs, which comes out to 7.9 runs/game. Stanford had 234 hits, but it's possible that some (many?) of them were of the infield variety. But then again we had 44 doubles, 14 triples and 34 HRs, which comes to 3.8 extra-base hits/game. Granted, Stanford had one of the best offenses in the ACC, but still that's a lot of offensive output, IMO.
I don't know how much more reaction time a batter would have on a typical pitch if the softball rubber was moved back 3 feet, and I certainly don't know how much that change would increase the number of balls hit out of the infield per game. But I guess I'm old-fashioned in that I prefer to not make it easier to score runs.

Today's college softball players are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. The fields do seem a little small to me. They need to move back the outfield fences, too. Too many home runs on balls that are not all that well hit.

The average D1 softball score in 2026 was 5 to 3, FWIW.
Someone mentioned Texas Tech's comeback win, but that doesn't quite do it justice. Texas Tech trailed Ole Miss 8-0 with two outs and one on in the bottom of the 7th. Rallied to tie the game with last 4 runs of the B7 scoring on a grand slam. Ole Miss scored a run in the op of the 8th but Texas Tech scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th to win.
That's what a million dollar pitcher gets you. Wait.....

34-7, 1.11 ERA, 319 SO, 240 innings pitched (1.33 SO/inning)
2026 so far (Texas Tech)
23-5, 1.42 ERA, 215 SO, 152 1/3 innings pitched (1.41 SO/inning)
She's still getting a lot of strikeouts, but she's surrendering more HRs at Texas Tech. Maybe it's apples-to-oranges and current Big 12 hitters are better than the old Pac-12? I don't follow the Big 12 so I don't know.

For the first time ever, Mississippi State is in the WCWS. For the first time since 2018 (exception for 2020, of course), Oklahoma will not play in the championship game, and for the first time since 2015, a team from the state of Oklahoma will not play in the WCWS.
And here's a really difficult trivia question: Which now-defunct school won the initial, pre-NCAA WCWS in 1969?
