Either will give Stanford a tough game.

Ohio State's 2nd leading scorer and leading 3 point shooter is Taylor Mikesell who played for Oregon last season.

Mikesell is a journeyman: she played two seasons at Maryland (2018-19, 2019-20), then one at Oregon (2020-21), before transferring to Ohio State.

Becoming the norm in college ball, for better or for worse.  (The hero for Creighton in win over Iowa was a Hawkeye last season).
Regardless, Mikesell looked very good in the game at LSU.  Maybe she finally found her home.

All this transferring around, an implicit statement for some of these people that basketball is the reason they are going to college, not to get an education. Was true for many men in the past, now becoming true for some women as well.  Mikesell trajectory reminds me of Destiny Slocum.

Yowza. Didn't realize the women's teams get nuthin' for playing these games, while the men's teams get a LOT:

The current system in the men's tournament is for every game a team from their conference plays in the NCAA tournament they earn 1 unit for their conference.   Then the conference divides that money amongst the schools in their conference.

One idea I've heard is to cut the value of the units in half and the women's teams earn a unit for every game they play in the tournament for their conferences.      It would incentivize the conferences and schools to invest more money and resources into their women's programs.  The units are paid out over 6 years.

So, if they had done that last year,  the PAC-12 women's teams would of earned 20 units.

No one else appears to have commented on this and it's a bit snarky -- sorry about that, well not really -- but I have to say, it's a great relief to me that we will not have to see Mulkey/LSU and her awful demeanor and clothes in Spokane.

That link led to this article about Haley and her NIL.

I would suggest that Swiffer should offer NIL to Lexie. (The only problem is that such an association sounds sexist, but her cleaning up everything that gets on the floor just fits.)

She continues to act like a prototypical spoiled child, which is annoying to me.  I won't miss her.

How about Saran Wrap or PPF Wrap since she smothers you on D?

I'd got with Energizer batteries or Gumby the claymation figure, because the Hulls just keep going and going and going, and it feels like their long limbs extend in all directions at once!

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - M T - 03-22-2022

For the men, the money from the tournament goes to the conferences, not the schools.  How does that help the schools that actually go to the tournament?  For instance, has Stanford (MBB) been freeloading off AZ (etc) in some way?

And, as I reported, the KU coach would have gotten $100K if his team had beaten Stanford and gone to the Sweet 16.  Is that just the school paying to get its name out in public (getting more choice of recruits and potentially more alumni $$ and more advertising $$), or is that money coming back from the NCAA somehow (seemingly not)?

I'd love to see a graphic:
If Tara Vanderver had her success as a coach of a men's basketball team, the NCAA would have paid the PAC-10/PAC-12  $x million dollars.  Since she coached women, the NCAA paid nothing.

In a sense, that's unfair, as the advertisers were paying for MBB viewers,  but it might be a stunning amount.

From this article, it looks like Turner Sports and CBS get to make deals for sponsorships of all 90 championships.    The report on Sports Equity that the NCAA did last year says the problem is businesses that are interested in sponsoring say women's softball and basketball can't sponsor just one or both of those sports.  They need to pay for a sponsorship deal for all 90 championships, so smaller to medium sized businesses can't afford that.  It is thought if Women's basketball and Baseball/Softball are broken out as two separate media and sponsorship deals instead of bundled with 40+ other championships, they would get a lot more revenue.

I'm not sure how revenue from advertising is split, but I would assume CBS, ESPN, and Turner Sports gets to sell most of the advertising during championships and keep that revenue.

From this article about 2021 payouts, teams cannot earn more than 5 units, so if the PAC-12 women's teams had been the men's teams last year, Stanford and Arizona would of earned 10 units between them, not 12 for participating in 6 games.  A unit was worth ~$337,000 last year.  The PAC-12 would of earned 18 units. The units are paid out over 6 years.

So, the PAC-12 would of earned ~$6,000,000 each year for 6 years.   Each school would of gotten $500,000 a year.

Don’t know about snarky but you did omit anything related to  Mulkey’s coaching ability or her teams record or skills.  Worse yet you  left out observation that  she didn’t go to Stanford, doesn’t live on the West Coast and speaks with a Southern Accent.  It’s really embarrassing that they let “those people” into womens basketball.  I mean, like you said, they don’t even know how to dress and they don’t talk like we do.

What’s the phrase for “ rude, overbearing snob” in Palo Alto?

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - BobK - 03-23-2022

Well when Mulkey won a national championship with Griner then announced
We don’t have no xxxx on this team.
Lovely

There must be something in the cyberatmosphere today that has people particularly cranky . . .

P.S.  To answer your question: your phrase works as well as any.  But if you really want to make your point, you should refer to it as "Shallow Alto."  That seems to be a favorite swipe at residents of my town.

Can't believe I haven't heard that before - I definitely LOL'd when I read your comment. Though IMHO they get a lot more "alto" in Berkeley. ;)

Immediate eligibility is automatic after the first transfer, but after a second transfer an athlete can obtain a waiver for immediate eligibility.

Personal or family financial hardship, injury/illness of a family member, mental health concerns, no participation opportunity at departing school are all reasons that will result in a waiver.
