Doh! Only confusing to people like me who don't read the key. Thanks, Chimera. What a fantastic home schedule including South Carolina, Tennessee, Creighton, Gonzaga, Oregon, OSU, Arizona, UCLA. A real treat for the local fans. ABC/ESPN should be spending a lot of time at Maples.

The WBB schedule highlights a problem with the Stanford Women's Sports Pass. You only can have 3 reservations at any time.
Currently, the WBB games are not available through this, but when they do become available, I was planning on reserving something at the S.Carolina game leaving 2 reservations for WVB games before that.
Still, I think the pass is a good deal for me, even if I'm only asking for General Admission tickets. (I want to stay away from people still, and I am generally happy sitting in the upper stands.)

That's the one road trip I do every year they are playing in Oregon, and I really enjoy it, especially the atmosphere at Gill in Corvallis (detest Mathew Knight in Eugene). Hmm, maybe we should go to Washington this year.

Love the special atmosphere @ Gill. Agree- No love for Mathew Knight. It's a very different and (almost vicious) fan base there. Haley certainly quieted the crowd up there last season.

as for the weak preseason schedule: hopefully it should give our plethora of new guards a chance to somewhat sort themselves out.

Florida Gulf Coast was 30-3 last year, making the NCAAs and defeating #16 Virginia Tech before losing in the second round to #13 Maryland. They, however, have lost more from their roster.
In any case, I think this schedule is more difficult that you suspect. Remember that in the last seven years we have lost to South Florida, Gonzaga (twice), Western Illinois, and Santa Clara, and we have had a few squeakers to similar teams. Some of these teams are difficult to play precisely because they are not typical power 5 rosters, using unconventional lineups and strategies that are atypical and that we don't see very much. Throw Tennessee and South Carolina in there and I think the preseason looks to me to be as difficult as the Pac-12 season, albeit shorter.

While I have cited an overall weakness in Stanford's first 5 non-conference games before S.C (6 counting the exhibition), I also mentioned that Portland could be a challenge if our inside game is out of sync (they have the nation's best shot-blocker), our outside/midrange game stalls and our defense allows too many easy baskets. I don't think that scenario will play out, but Portland could be a legit test at their home court.
I happen to agree with the previous post in that several post-S.C. games can be challenges as well aside from Tennessee. FGCU always scares me with their unique offense; Gonzaga almost always gives us tough, physical (close) games, and Creighton is not afraid of anyone. They play some of the best team basketball I have seen.

Some excellent points. Any of those lineups would win a lot of games. We know that Tara is moving Brink to power-forward to give her more operating room and take advantage of her unique skill sets. We also know that Haley will (offensively) will be point guard/point f orchestrating the offense and breaking down defenses like no one else can and yes- posting up. My take- to get to the championship game again we might need a couple of adjustments: more quickness on the perimeter, not just defensively, but quickness to penetrate defenses. Nivar and Harriel may potentially fill that bill.
I love Fran's (beast) game, but there were times last season when she had difficulty scoring and defending against much taller/bigger posts. Two choices for different reasons- Kiki and Prechtel. Kiki showed so much power and explosiveness in her freshman year and her footwork improved immeasurably by the end of the season. I predict her skill sets will begin to match her power and defensive front lines will not have the luxury of double-teaming Brink. Kiki is a good leaper and shot-blocker as well. Why Prechtel? She has already shown she can be an adequate defender (power wise) against the likes of Boston and other powerful posts. Ashten has never shown an inclination to be a strong inside player, but I think Tara might ask more of her. Prechtel's biggest value is, of course, forcing the opposing 'big' to come out and guard against her 3-point dagger shots. What does that do? Prechtel hits Brink in stride and it's all over.
We have discussed Betts numerous times. She is a potential program-changer. Re-watching many of her HS and FIBA

Excellent post, stopandpop. I’ve been enjoying all your contributions to the dialogue since you’ve joined here and it appears as if you and I think very similarly.
I can’t wait to see how much Kiki’s game has evolved since her fresh year and I’m also very curious to see who turns out to be our best defender against speedy opposing guards. At least one of the frosh/sophs is going to surprise us with a big leap in development this year and that will be fun to watch, as will be the implications for the rotation.

Watching the volleyball match today, I can’t help but thinking that Fran would have been a beast as an OH in volleyball. The combination of her hops, her strength, and her height would have been tremendous on the court.
