Still, silver medal at the Olympics is fantastic, and she'll be back for LA 2028, hopefully joined by Hentz for a gold medal run!
True. Also, USA had zero blocks to Italy's 11. Italy was ranked number one for a reason.

The US and China* tied for most golds. Apparently the first such tie ever. If you use silver and bronze as a tie breaker, the US eked out the win.
* China’s tally not only excludes Taiwan, but also excludes Hong Kong, which seems odd.

And the US tally doesn't include Puerto Rico (they had two bronze medals this year).

Stanford led all colleges in Olympic medals with 39 medals. That includes 36 for the USA, 2 for Australia, and 1 for Hong Kong. Below is a list of the leading colleges (including medals for team USA only). The full list is here:

The ACC is proud of the Olympic medals won by its student-athletes, vast majority of which come from Stanford and Cal:

Somebody needs to update the Wikipedia medal count. Note the asterisks on Stanford's medal count and that is without Heiden's and Gu's medals from the Winter Olympics in the current count. Include those and we have clearly passed usc in total medals and gold medals. What a fantastic result for Stanford Olympians in Paris! It might be time for a "bootleg" t-shirt to come out to commemorate such a great performance.

From the WSJ
Quote:Which College Won the Olympics?
At the Paris Games, there were medalists from more than 100 schools. But there was one college that outperformed most countries—again.
.....
Stanford took home 39 medals, more than double the number of any other U.S. school—and more than the Netherlands, South Korea, Germany and Canada.
The delegation from Palo Alto would have been 11th on the medal table in Tokyo and 10th in Rio. But in Paris, they managed to overachieve and finished 8th in the overall medal standings.

And great water polo commentary by LSJU legend Tony Azevedo, and fantastic emcee duties by NBC's lead host and LSJU parent, Mike Tirico.

Per swimswam, and unsurprisingly, the highest earning members of the USA swim teams at the Olympics, were Huske ($ 261 K - two individual medals incl. 100 m butterfly gold, and three relay medals incl. two gold); Ledecky ($ 250 K - two individual gold, one individual bronze and one relay silver); and R. Smith ($ 225 K - three individual silver and two relay gold).

Undoubtedly due to their status as ACC legends…

Even without Gu's medals Stanford is now ahead in gold, because USC claims only 7 this cycle. And tied in overall because USC claimed 15 which is conveniently 24 less than 39.
USC should not claim most overall gold at this point.
And really USC should not even claim most overall medals as Gu had plans to attend Stanford when she won her Beijing medals.
I believe Gu attended frosh orientation in 2022, but I am not sure if she is still attending Stanford.

Team Stanford medal count with only one medal per event (e.g., women's soccer scores one gold here not three as they do in the overall 39 total medal count)

I'm fine with the ACC touting the 98 medals won by its members, but it's worth noting the breakdown:
Stanford & Cal: 62 medals
rest of ACC: 38 medals

I agree on your ACC point, CC. Let them tout this as the ACC has not been in this position before.
I wouldn't mind the Pac12 putting out a final count on it's website touting the Pac12's dominance in medal count in Paris. It would be a nice way to go out on top! I'm still hoping some version of the Pac12 returns in the next few years for all/most sports as the travel for our teams/students is not going to be easy.

if you have not looked at the Pac 12 website lately, as expected it has changed to basically the Pac 2....so I doubt they will do anything to recognize the achievements of the former members at the Paris Olympics. They also don't currently seem to have an historical info on the Pac 12 at the Olympics, don't know if that was removed or never existed. They do show the 514 Pac 12 NCAA championships of which W Golf is the last one...

I hope so. I believe that OSU and WSU have until the summer of 2026 to reconstitute the Pac-12 which means they would need plans in place by next summer at the latest. This would likely include the best six MWC teams (Boise State, Air Force, SJSU, UNLV, Wyoming, Fresno State) and dropping the unattractive members (Hawaii, San Diego State, Colorado State, Utah State, Hawaii, New Mexico) and possibly Memphis and UTSA from the AAC. OSU and WSU received a $65 million settlement from the Pac-12, but that would be eaten up by poaching penalties if they directly solicited MWC teams; e.g., $67.5 million to poach the top six schools. They need a minimum of eight schools to form a conference. Or maybe reverse-merge the MWC conference into the Pac-12 (or rebrand it as the Pac-12). The Pac-12 still has some cachet.

Farm, those numbers are on wikipedia, and as noted, do not currently include either Heiden or Gu in the count. I agree with your counts, but unfortunately the Stanford AD takes an even more conservative approach. I'm not sure why? U$c and most other schools take the opposite tact and lay claim to all potential athlete ties. The wikipedia page is fairly comprehensive (save for Heiden and Gu).
Stanford AD has finally started to understand the power of the Olympics to create more fans (and likely more donations), so I'm hopeful that they will start to put more focus on Stanford as the Olympic student athlete training ground. This year's microsite was a step in the right direction, but as others pointed out, $c has done a better job of this. Love the WSJ article - we should make PR hay while we can!

someone (maybe Bobk) once wrote here that the AD didn't previously count Heiden or Debi Thomas as their sports were not sports that the AD supports (same rationale would apply for Gu).
