Good guesses, but no. Marichal had 52 shutouts, Drysdale 49, Feller 44, Koufax 40, Bunning 40.
Verlander is third in shutouts among active players, with 9.

Gibson and Carlton are close. Gibson had 56 shutouts, Carlton had 55.
The two remaining pitchers began their careers between 1960 and 1980. One of them played 22 seasons, the other one played 23 seasons. One of them is a 300 game winner, one is not.
Any more guesses about the active leader in shutouts?

The pitcher with 60 shutouts played mostly in the American League. He won 287 games, but won 20 games in a season only once. The pitcher with 58 shutouts played mostly in the National League. He won 324 games, but also won 20 games in a season only once.
