William Randolph Hearst, Charlie Chaplin, Blackie Norton?

Mick’s last question was SF based and the old City Sugar King was Adolph Spreckles but I don’t know if he had any Lolita’s in his resume.

Alma Spreckels was Adolph's wife and junior by 24 years -- she was 26 when they met.  She (happily) referred to him as her "sugar daddy."

Stag's Leap, specifically their 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Here's the event.  The French wines were really most impressive.

The Mondavi ‘69 won some award in France. We did a few Mondavi stories and the old man gave my dad a case of ‘69 and he bought another one. I have about 9 bottles left. We stopped drinking when my wife got pregnant 40 years ago. Except for beer and a MacAllan once in a blue moon (my family in Scotland but they don’t know me). We started drinking again with the pandemic and now I’m afraid to open the Mondavi. Anybody have ideas. It has been kept in a constant cold place and turned over once in awhile.

Earlier today, Bryant Young was elected to the Pro Football HOF.  He is the fifth player elected to the HOF who played exclusively for the 49ers.  Who were the other four?

Bob St. Clair
Ted Kwalick
Jimmy Johnson
I think there was a linebacker, maybe from Oregon.  Supposedly Mike Ditka said he ended his career (not from injury, but he couldn't get off the line against him).  Wilcox, maybe?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 02-10-2022

Dave Wilcox
Leo Nomellini
St. Clair
Jimmy Johnson

Not Kwalick

That was quick.  Well done, Phogge…..

I had it in my mind's eye that Kwalick had a much better career than he did.  He wasn't even close to Russ Francis or Brent Jones, neither of whom are in the HoF, both of whom have substantially outperformed Kwalick.  Their career numbers are actually quite similar.  Both are dwarfed, incidentally, by Zach Ertz whose career tracks Gronk's pretty closely.

Dave Parks should be in the Hall

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 02-11-2022

Who was the first player featured in TV instant iso replay?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 02-11-2022

Kareem

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 02-11-2022

Nope. Hint: NFL, remember it was an iso not the one time use of a TD replay in an Army/Navy game.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 02-11-2022

Marshall’s wrong way run vs niners

It's parallel to Lombard, two blocks over, and perfectly straight. It looks like you're about to drive off the edge of a cliff. I got more than one "don't, don't!" even though I didn't take it fast.

I lived on the Filbert Steps for 10 years, right at the top off Kearney and in the shadow of Coit Tower.  Pretty good for the cardio.

I love Zach Ertz, but Gronkowski may be the best run blocking tight end ever, and was an outstanding pass blocking tight end as well. He also averaged 15 yards per reception since he was an actual deep threat (Ertz has averaged 10.8 yards per reception in his career). It's not a disparagement of Ertz, but he doesn't come close to Gronkowski as an all around player at the position, nobody really does.

Dave Parks.

If you're at all interested in the Bullitt chase scene(s), this is a must-read, including how they built up both the Mustang and the Charger, and how the Mustang couldn't really keep up with the Charger (much smaller engine).  Goes into plot, script, director, shooting angles, etc.  Phogge, let me know what you think:

Also, the geography of the chase was impossible, but one wouldn’t know that without knowing San Francisco.
