There were a few on this board who wanted Wayne Tinkle before he was hired away from the Griz by the Beavers.
The tourney berth drought-snapper in 2016 was savory and the Elite Eight run in 2021 was scintillating, but other than that.....

I’d still rather have him than Haase who’s never even gotten close to a bid. If Haase had Tinkle’s record he sure as hell wouldn’t be dead man walking right now

Glad to have been at Maples to see our first conference win. We played above average, except for the end of the half/beginning of the half when the River Rodents scored 16 in a row. We also didn't shoot FTs well, but we did rebound well and played very good defense.
I was surprised that neither Murrell nor Agarwal got in the game. There seems to be some new deep, deep bench players that weren't on the team at the beginning of the year. They did get in the game for the last 90 seconds.

The new guys are two team managers who were added as walk-ons. They've gotten into games during the closing minutes a couple of times.

First conference win!
Seriously, it's good that they have a conference win. Hopefully it will allow the team to enjoy a part of their experience this season. Has to make it a bit easier to get into the weight room and push to improve for future seasons.
Ironic there was a comment about Tinkle's lack of success. I have to believe that fans of every program in the conference could say things like, "At least our coaching is better than Haase." Not that any of them likely do that since just being at the Haase level of success can't possibly be an acceptable for any (other) program in a major conference.

Even in a good win, there is always something substantial to criticize about Haase. I guess that Agarwal's 47% three-point shooting and Murrell's 47% three-point shooting aren't good enough to merit playing time on a team that ranks 291st in D-i in three-point shooting and struggles to score...

Tinkle parlayed the luckiest March Madness run ever, despite finishing 6th in the Pac-12, into a massive contract extension while his team was bad before and has now been even worse since.
How do college ADs continue to do things like this?

Attendance was reasonably strong for the first half as the student section was fairly full, I think due to some sort of giveaway. Unfortunately, most of them left at halftime. They missed a pretty entertaining Simon Sez halftime show, which was co-won by a little girl (good for her) after she beat out two dollies that were doing very well. The lower bowl was probably at 45- 50%, not many in the upper sections. The 8pm start didn't help matters.
Good to see the team bring some fight. Reynaud needs to get stronger and more aggressive. He had a good night, but he gets pushed around and needs to hit the weight room. Ingram continues to be one of the few players to create. Let's hope they keep this up vs the Ducks.

Watching highlights like that just makes me more pissed that he's not even averaging 10 ppg, has a FG% of 38.1% and a FT% of 58.7%. Between Ingram and Williams, Haase has wasted so much 5* talent.

If a player can't shoot FT at better than 59% clip after shooting thousands of them for years with multiple coaches, it's unlikely to be the current coach's fault.

And HI is only hitting 28% (16 of 57) of his 3Pt attempts, with those attempts almost always open set shots.
Could he be used better. Sure. But, although he is smart, strong and hard working, he is not quick or otherwise super athletic (nice highlight though) and I fear is simply not a very good shooter. On the big screen last night, there was a HI interview. He said his dream has been and is to play in the NBA. I doubt he has the necessary talent.

No more than 2,500 and probably closer to 2,200. The lower level was around 60% filled and the upper levels 10% from my vantage point.
It was good to see nearly half the WBB team in attendance supporting the men's team.

Fast paced and fun half, ending with us up 42-37.
Of course, that came with us shooting 67% for the half. Let's hope we avoid regression to the mean.
Ingram had 5 assists in the half. I think he had 7 or 8 against OSU. I keep saying he's the best passer on the team--Haase is finally having him distribute, and it works.
