RE: 2026 Women’s Volleyball - Card10Fan - 09-09-2026

It’s a little early in the season only game 5 to start using the travel excuse for looking sloppy and not sharp. Other than Andrew, who’s leading this team with their play? Where is Harvey as the senior? Parks looks lost and setting off again.

Glad to see DeMaria in the game. Kurt was playing very poorly.

This doesn’t bode well for game at Penn State. That will be a true road game against an even better team.

Parks ok on the slide set but off on everything else

VolleyTalk all over Parks

RE: 2026 Women’s Volleyball - Card10Fan - 09-09-2026

ESPN commentators after set 2 seem to agree in critiquing Logan Parks setting.

Yeah, I was groping.

Andrews has almost as many assists as Parks

Cawa and Roslon playing inspired defense

Great set win!

At last, a group that wants to win.

Blyashov should be starting.

Props to BLYASHOV and ANDREW for having some fight. Fitting, we end the game with 3 straight errors.

We will beat a lot of teams this year with our talent. But quite simply against NCAA caliber teams, a team CANNOT be terminal with such poor and inconsistent setting. Yes i'm talking about Logan Parks.

Expecting a 0-3 loss at Penn State. It will be a much tougher environment and Penn State IMO is even better than A&M.

I don't agree re: PSU vs TAMU.  TAMU had been without Stowers, their best player, until last week.  So, they have played a week only with their actual starters.  They also were experimenting with a 6-2 that was horrible.  Last night they ran a 5-1, and it was quite successful.  They looked the best of all their matches last night, by far.  And I think they finally found their right lineup.

PSU has many issues on their side.  I have watched most their matches, and they are not very good.  This is not to say I think they are bad, but they really are not that great this year. Martin is talented as their OPP but she isn't off to a great start this year, and their outsides are hitting at a very low hitting percentage, particularly their L2s, who they haven't really decided on and keep switching it up.  Passing is also very rough.  Also of note, our match against them isn't in Rec Hall, it's in The Palestra, a larger venue in Philly.  So, while I am sure they will have plenty of fans, it is not going to be the same setting as them being at Rec Hall, which is a very tough venue.

I think had we played TAMU last week, we would have won, as they were still finding their footing.  They found it against us, and would have won some of the matches they lost had they had this lineup.  They are going to be rising up the rankings as they move forward.  PSU is still meddling with who is playing OH2, struggle passing, and will not be as tough as TAMU last night, imo.

Excellent post Spike 5882. I certainly agree. I also thought the setting was good I thought the passing was average at best

You've played this card a hundred times when Stanford loses on the East Coast.  ENOUGH.  I'm sick of reading about this excuse.

Maybe the issue isn't exactly East coast travel.  But just travel and being away game in general. In other words, not like a physical exhaustion from travel flying east, but rather a mental lapse after some long travel and then being away at another venue, different locker room and court, different lighting, maybe a slightly different court feel, usually without friends or family or as much fan support, staying in a hotel instead of your bed, maybe too much A/C or heat, maybe mattress not comfortable, etc. etc. and then results in some lack of peak concentration and performance.  In other words, consider if instead of flying east they had a 5 hour bus ride to play UC Santa Barbara, maybe a similar situation where they don't always bring their top concentration and energy?
This gets into the age old speculation of if there is, and when there is, a home field advantage, then why?

I have a different view.  There are a few "fans" on here that take a "The grass is always browner on this side of the fence" view of the Stanford teams, despite Stanford having clearly the best sports program in the country for decades.  They blame the players, the coaches, the AD, and on up the chain.

If you're sick of someone pointing out that a two time-zone travel may contribute to a poorer-than-expected performance, maybe you should consider stopping reading about it.

I will do my best to break this habit. I’m sure I’ll hear about it if I fail.

But I gotta add my personal story.

In the distant past I was getting paid to give two day seminars. Monday and Tuesday in one city. Either W-Th or Th-F in another. Did this for about two years.  Many involved travel east. (Furthest was the UK.) I never figured out how to overcome jet lag. West to east is far more difficult than east to west.

I continue flying coast to coast often. Yes for sure flying from west to east is the harder direction. My “old guy secret weapon” is being able to sleep during the flight, so I don’t find the time zone difference that bad. That being said I’m not an Olympic-level athlete competing at a grueling unforgiving match.
Interesting side note, watching San Fran beat the crap outta LA Rams in Australia, where LA Rams were quite favored, announcers said the 49ers came early and acclimated to the time zone. Rams stayed til last minute in LA and came just in time for game. They seem to be suffering for it.
