First goal. Koehler really worked it on the left side, and a beautiful centering pass to Klinger.

This team is preternaturally good at coming up the side and centering to a well placed finisher.

Should add that while it wasn’t a clean sheet, teams are not supposed to dominate sweet sixteen and elite eight matches the way Stanford has outscored its last opponents 11-1. Stanford is through along with Duke and Florida State, meaning 3/4 teams in the final four are ACC. WE beat FSU 2-1 in Tallahassee during the ACC season; did not play Duke.

Per GoStanford, the 2019 NCAA champion team scored a record 102 goals (in 25 games), with Macario scoring 32. With today's win, LSJU has 95 goals this season, in 22 games. That's slightly higher per game than the 2019 team.

Stanford will probably enter the College Cup with the largest goal differential accrued in the tournament. Strength of schedule or team of destiny? They've done *quite* well, and I dare not tempt the woofing gods.

Strong round of 8 game against a very overmatched MSU team. Git a bit sloppy late with the subs including the MSU goal, but it was long over by that point.
It’s been dominant so far, but to temper expectations - it’s played out like I expected when I said I liked the bracket. Good opponents, but generally merely good teams can’t play with this team. Only the elite can, and we will see 2 of those to win it with Duke and FSU as the likely opponents.
Need Bhuta back and it would be nice if Boamah would get herself back together defensively. Positionally, she is a mess right now. Otherwise, the rest of the team just needs to keep doing what it’s been doing.

A mere 8-0 blowout in that game and they would have had the same 95 goals for the season. That 2019 team also scored 9 goals in the 2nd-4th round NCAA games, which is impressive until you look at the 18 goals the current team just scored in the same three rounds.
And, by the way, sophomore Charlotte Kohler has a remarkable 17 assists so far, which is #1 in the country and 2nd all time for a Stanford player in season. The only player with more is Catarina Macario, who had 23 assists in that 2019 season. Macario benefitted from that same Prairie View game, where she recorded 5 assists (her only assists of the NCAA playoffs that year).

But also, what the hell was the goalkeeper even doing? Would have been tough to stop no matter what since Macario was behind the Italian defense, but she did herself no favors with her awful positioning.

A very brief write up on the final four teams in the Athletic.
Like TCU, Duke has never won a Division I title. Like Florida State, Stanford has been an elite presence at this tournament. Dating back to 2009, the Cardinal are 3-3 in six championship appearances. This year’s run for top-seeded Stanford has been all about the attack, with an absurd 21 goals across four rounds. Seniors Jasmine Aikey and Elise Evans are the team’s Hermann Trophy semifinalists.
ACC rival Duke presents a challenge for such a potent offense. The second-seeded Blue Devils have four clean sheets in four playoff outings, thanks to sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Dysart. She notched her 11th shutout of the season with Duke’s 3-0 win versus Washington. Hermann hopeful Kat Rader will try to give her some room to work with up front:
