I actually used to attend a lot of games as a teenager. The 1981 MLB strike shook my confidence to its core. I've never attended more than one game in a season since then, though I watch all I can on television, and have half a dozen Giants gear items.

The current situation affects me not at all. I never believed the owners were particularly laudable figures, nor did I think the players were all (or mostly) "great guys". It is a business, and always has been a business. People cheat to win. The owners pay the players as little as possible and the players try to maximize their individual compensation. Nothing new here, nothing to see here. If you want to watch baseball, do it because you like the game and it makes you happy. Watching because of who owns/who plays is IMHO a fool's errand.

There were two Billy Martin's. I saw both during one spring training interview in Florida.

Perhaps but it’s probably time to end the franchise anyway as today’s Chronicle review calls the latest a stinker. Where is Adam West when humanity needs him?

Manfred is simply a puppet for the owners. It's convenient that they can prop him up as the villain while they drive the hard line in negotiations.

Generally agree; however, I think the divergent interests of owners is a lot greater in MLB, than in football, where there is significant revenue sharing. I mean, isn't one of the biggest sticking points in current CB negotiations the level at which luxury tax kicks in? Absolutely true, owners have different agendas, not just on the CBT but on every issue, e.g. minimum salary and pre-arbitration length are vital to clubs that want to operate with the lowest possible payroll. A new CBA needs 23/30 owners to approve it so a stubborn minority bloc has a lot of power. I'm not an Manfred admirer but I recognize that he does have a difficult situation to balance.

Griese never coached before, but played QB for 11 seasons in the NFL, was in the Pro Bowl once and was drafted by Mike Shanahan. He learned under Mike Shanahan his first five years in the league.

He was also on Tampa Bay's roster for two years while Kyle Shanahan was an assistant coach there. Interesting hire in any case.

Smart move from Griese. If Lance is successful, Griese gets some credit. He will be working with perhaps the best offensive mind of any head coach in football (or at least the best not named Andy Reid) with a team that is poised to win. If things go well, he will be an OC in 2 years and an HC in 4. If he wants it.
And if he busts, there is always the booth.

Maybe a couple 3d to 4th round picks. Wilson is elite.

Wilson also has two years remaining on his contract at well below market, which is obviously valuable.
All things being equal I think Garoppolo would garner at least a 2nd-3rd round pick but his shoulder surgery complicates his market.
