ESPN broadcast came back in time for me to see ASU win set 2, 25-21. Stanford was down early 12-4 and couldn't complete the comeback.

To those like me not watching, is SETTING and SERVE RECEIVE our biggest issues again? It's going to be a long few weeks at this rate. Likely sweeps at SMU and Pitt next weekend unless something changes drastically fast.

to me it appears ASU sets are where the hitters prefer them, Stanford approaches, timing is off

Stanford comes back in set 3 to take a lead, 23-22, on a great rally (a couple of digs from Etzler).
But ASU takes the set 26-24 for the sweep.

Stanford had set point at 24-23 but, alas, ASU reeled off 3 straight points to complete the sweep.
Looking for a silver lining... San Luis Obispo has an awesome downtown farmer's market on Thursday evenings.

We looked horrid. Really horrid.
I have always been a bit pro-Parks, looking at her potential when things are rough. But every week, she is worse and worse. Tonight, Ella Andrews got 5 sets. 5 attempts over a 3 set match, while she hit 400. Parks had 7 attempts herself. A setter should not be getting more attempts than a middle, particularly when that middle can hit.
Look at the attempts per attacker today vs the attempts per attacker in the last match when Wagner set. I get it -- different level of opponents. But that does not change how you spread the offense; at least not this drastically. Wagner is slower to the ball and not as athletic, but she runs a more composed, spread offense.
I really don't get it. I really am just lost as to why Hambly keeps Parks in. She is bad, really really bad. If she continues being our setter, this is going to be a very long season with a lot of losses.

Mostly not competitive again today. Some life at the end of the second into the third set, but not enough.
Harvey and Blyashov were good especially considering, but this team has no shot with Andrew hitting .118 and 5 kills. And Kurt hitting negative puts the nail in the coffin. Offense to the middles is just collapsing right now and that was the saving grace last year.
They are in serious trouble with no easy fixes. Demaria doesn’t solve anything. Less Kirsch has probably helped a little. Getting Sayers back would help some, but offense to the middles is down and heading the wrong way.
To my eye:
1. Parks is no better setting wide and clearly worse setting in the middle this year.
2. Offense to the middles is collapsing. 8 kills today when last year we averaged about 5.5 a set. Andrew has her hitting percentage way down from .550ish last year.
3. Serving is worse - errors are about 2.5x aces and the eye test says we aren’t generating consistent pressure. Only 2 aces today vs. 6 errors.
4. we haven’t been great in rallies in years, but it feels worse again this year.
Not sure passing is worse or not - I would love to see advanced stats.
On the positive side Blyashov and Harvey I think are playing better this year - especially Blyashov, but it isn’t enough so far.

Just checked the score on the other match at SLO: Santa Clara pulled off a reverse sweep and beat Cal Poly (23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 29-27, 15-13).
And I noticed Cal Poly has a player named Noe Vanacht. Is she the daughter of Lisa Sharpley Vanacht? No family info in her bio, but from Los Altos.

gostanford.com reported attendance of 42 at the Stanford/ASU match. So at least not many saw the train wreck in person.
