Speaking of ineptitude, SDSU apparently contracted all of its legal work out to Legal Zoom. Clearly, SDSU was planning to receive a P5 invite, presumably from the PAC-12, and made a mess of the whole situation. MWC probably could have dropped the hammer and kicked SDSU out of the conference based on the notice, but its value to the conference means the MWC is unlikely to take such steps and the Aztecs will be saved from their own incompetence.
They can delay everything a year and the buyout is the same. It's only doubled if they try to leave when they originally intended.

I may be misunderstanding your post but SDSU’s buyout for leaving the Mountain West increases from $16.5 million to $34 million after today per ESPN and other sources.

No. If they delay their departure one year, then the buyout doesn't increase.

<1 year notice = 34M buyout.

Sounds like SDSU is a perfect fit for the Pac whatever. Incompetence reigns.

The sports media landscape is going through a seriously disruptive evolution. All the media companies are moving to streaming as they see the cable subscription model dying, but there is far less money available from streaming than from the guaranteed cable fees model that once dominated.

I'm personally finding myself watching YouTube channels way more than TV these days. Have DTV still, but I mostly only watch sports and weather, sometimes PBS.  I don't watch any "network" TV or any other cable channels. I'd pay up to $49/mo for a streaming sports channel that gives me all the games being played from all sports. I'd then drop DTV and wouldn't even replace with YouTube TV, just YouTube because frankly, TV sucks these days.

Would I pay for a Pac whatever streaming service? Maybe, but bundling all the sports together on one streaming service makes the most sense to me. Could do a lot of cool stuff in terms of customizing the content on screen. This model would do away with rights fees. Leagues would get paid based on subscriptions only, which is how it should be, IMO.

Thinking it through, I don't think big broadcast networks have much of a future.
