Shaw is employed by NFL Network but I haven’t seen him on the little game day coverage I have watched.

Shaw was hired to do one job, don't mess up Luck's last year. How did that work out?
Huh??? This may be the most bizarre Shaw take I've heard yet.
Thank goodness no one else held this view or we would've been deprived of three of the greatest seasons in program history.
You could pick anyone from this photo and they would have coached better.

Of all the things to be outraged over, David Shaw's absence from last night's game is not one of them.
Who's outraged?
You’re right. “Ridiculously obsessed” would have been a more appropriate term.

I get that that's your opinion. But the fact that that's your opinion is of zero interest to me, just as it would be of zero interest to you if I said only that IMO Stanford will not have a football team 7-10 years from now.
What MIGHT be of interest to me is WHY that is your opinion. About that we might have a meaningful discussion.

7 Rose Bowls in my Lifetine 3 coached by Shaw. Plus I attended them. For which as a fan I’m forever grateful

So you want to go all Mark McGwire on us or something? In the immortal words of our oft-beleaguered commander-in-chief:
"C'mon, man!" Hey, If you choose to airbrush and mentally redact all the "bad" stuff, (which really isn't "bad", strictly speaking) good for you. "Move on", indeed, as you advise. However, big-time coaches, particularly the royally prosperous and wealthy ones, are not, repeat NOT, entitled to unconditional, eternal adoration. I will tip my visor to our former coach. But I will not give him a pass on brainfarts, negligence, or let him slide. Hey, I raised more than my share of toasts to Stanford HCs over the decades who gave us all
"Two Tickets to Paradise". But I also paid for the privilege and the airfare and the hotel suites to get myself in position to raise those jars. I will gripe and rake and excoriate to my heart's content, too, when the moment calls for it. It comes with the territory. Coach(es) know that. They are richly compensated as well.

Who's obsessed? Our former coach has a son playing for our opponent. Interesting situation, don't you think? Add in he's our winningest coach ever, how he left, the shitshow he left behind. Pretty newsworthy, right? Yet crickets until this thread, and only one comment confirming he was in attendance. What's happened to journalism, or at least sportsboard investigative sleuthing?

Honestly, I'm so sick of hearing people whine about Shaw that I'm thankful every time we can go five posts without his name being mentioned. He's not our coach anymore, and whatever he did to contribute to the state of our football program has been so overdissected over the past year(s) that the topic has become a real, boring yawner.

I'm not disappointed. Stanford football is doing a bit better than I expected, and the upset over Colorado was a lot of fun. It's going to be two more years before Stanford rights the ship, but I have confidence that they will do so. I think they recruit the right kind of player, and I will certainly give the current coaching staff a lot of rope, given the abysmal situation they found themselves in, vis-a-vis the NIL and portal environments.
And it should go without saying that I really liked Matt's posts. Read every word, disagreed with almost none of it.

Yes, he's not our coach any more, and lots and lots board posts about Coach TT and this year's team.
But we still sometimes can't help but talk about Coach Shaw some more, for the same reason people still read "A Tale of Two Cities": It was the best of times, it was the worst of times....

Yes agreed very much hope we get a msqueri post.
The irony of this year's stumbling team, is that if we lose the rest of the games (against really good teams) and yet pull out a win against dreaded CAL, we will have matched last year's record. Which I'd then consider quite a success of a season for Coach TT and Co, after being pummeled with perhaps the worst transfer portal abandonment of any PAC-12 team ever, except of course at Colorado where the transfers out were hounded out like cattle being chased with a hot prod.

I think popular, or at least loud, opinion is that any middling coach could have delivered those 3 seasons. Maybe I'm getting the sites mixed up now that I've gone back to one of the pay sites as well.

The two sites definitely lean different directions. For the majority here, Shaw still walks on water. For many there, he is the Great Satan. Always good to listen to, and appreciate, differing perspectives, no matter what the subject matter.

I think more than a few of us are grateful for the Rose Bowls but think he should have left 3 years earlier...
