I'd offer up my [unspecified body part, TBD] if it would help get some of these guys back another year.
Yurosek, Humphreys, and Gilman if gonna recover from injuries and still want to try for a statement year.
Rogers would be awesome.
Of course there's others but these jump out to me as a top fantasy wish list.
From the portal I would hope to concentrate on OLine and DLine, with extra emphasis on OLine and DLine.
Unfortunately, isn't everyone thinking the same?
Maybe nextmost, Linebacker?
Hopefully one relief for us is not desperately "scrambling" for a QB.
I pity the schools that have a top QB that suddenly, without warning, bolts for the portal leaving them grasping at unmentionable regions to try and pull up a surprise replacement winner transfer from out of such unmentionable region.

Wow, surprising and impressive news

Giants - 11-27-2023
Despite my early suggestion that forecasting results at this point is a fool’s errand, I cannot help but jump in the pool. Lumping them into groups…
Wins
Cal Poly
San Jose St.
Wake Forest
Syracuse
Losses
ND
Clemson
NC State
Louisville
Tossups
Cal (potential transfers will determine the Bears 2024 fate. Currently, they have decent talent and lousy coaching - they can’t afford to lose any good players to the portal. At this point, anything is possible).
Virginia Poly (the name by which they went when I was a kid. Play them early and win or play them late and lose).
SMU (the mystery team on the schedule - I have no idea how this one will play out).
TCU (With Dykes in charge of the Frogs, Stanford is assured to score 50+. However, I ‘m not certain that would be enough to win).
Can Stanford split the tossups? That will determine whether a bowl is in the team’s immediate future.

if Phillips, the cardiovascular surgery intern, comes back, then our defense will have a real shot at improvement.

Jackson/Brown might get a few reps on the practice field. That's about it.

San Jose State are not slouches. They beat UNLV and came within computer points of playing in the MWC championship.

A real shame. SJSU had to play both Boise State and UNLV on the road (8 pt. loss and 6 pt. win). Boise State avoided UNLV in the regular season.
At any rate, the 7-5 Spartans will get to play in a bowl game, possibly:
- The Hawaii Bowl vs. Memphis or Rice on 12/23 / Action Network projection
- Birmingham Bowl vs. Georgia State / Fox Sports/24/7 projection
- Boca Raton Bowl vs. Marshall's Thundering Herd / CBS Sports projection
- Idaho Potato Bowl vs. Ohio / ESPN projection

I'd be surprised if Jackson has a significant role in his career. (Famous last words!) My intuition is, if he were, he'd've gotten a try from Taylor already this year.
Brown, on the other hand, is a definite possibility -- for the same reason that new GMs like to fire holdover coaches. At a certain point you want to ride or die with "your guy." Daniels isn't without skills, to be fair, but maybe not enough to dissuade a coach who wants to play with his guy. And they almost always want to -- play their guys, I mean.

Jackson reclassified a year to come early to Stanford. Given that he could have been a senior in high school, it makes sense to let him sit for a year.
Having said that, I think Brown is Taylor's guy. The guy who might challenge him is 2025 recruit Bear Bachmeier, Tiger's brother. That is if we can wrestle him away from Notre Dame, Alabama and all the other top teams that are recruiting him.

I agree it would generally make sense. If Jackson were backing up the backup to a (let's say) KJ Costello I wouldn't change my mental classification much. But not playing for a 3-8 team with an uncertain QB position should be (IMO) a modest downgrade.

There is also the possibility of a Coach's decision to protect a very young QB from being thrown unprepared into a meaningless already decided game, only to be sacked and injured from a 300+lb DLineman running full steam through our porous OLine.
