Pretty sure he’s seen his “mentor” (or his father’s “mentee”) Shohei get that so he knew what was up. :)

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - BobK - 06-27-2024

The Draft is set for July 14-16. Malcolm Moore will be a first rounder. Nati could be drafted.
Matt Scott was just projected as a late first round pick by Baseball America in 2025

The Portal is open maybe Stanford gets some solid help.

From the Daily

How a Zoom call landed Stanford’s next baseball phenom [Rintaro Sasaki]

Quote:On a February evening, assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator Thomas Eager was contacted by a potential recruit asking to chat via Zoom. Slightly confused and suspecting the worst, Eager and baseball head coach David Esquer hopped on the meeting.

“I went up and told coach Esquer, ‘Hey, I think this is the Zoom where he tells us he’s going somewhere else,’” Eager recalled.

After a months-long recruiting process, which included communicating with the player back and forth and thoughtfully hosting his official visit, Eager didn’t know what more he could’ve done. Every effort had been made to show this recruit the unique opportunities Stanford could offer.

The Zoom call began with the recruit asking questions, which would be unusual if he intended to commit elsewhere. The two coaches tried to read between the lines of each question asked. Esquer sent Eager a text asking, “Are we good?” Eager was unsure of the answer himself.

Then the player broke the news: “I’m coming to Stanford.”

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Nobadeer - 09-11-2024

Tommy Edman coming alive for the hated but first place Dodgers. Tonight, 2 more HR and 4 RBI, to follow his 2 homer game last night! Move over Ohtani and Judge!

From ESPN:

"Tommy Edman homered for the fourth time in 24 hours. His two-out, two-run shot off Trey Wingenter in the eighth extended the Dodgers' lead to 10-7. The switch-hitter went deep in the first from the right side and then from the left."

But none will ever match the homer he hit in the bottom of the 9th in the 2014 Bloomington Regional final to walk off on Kyle Schwarber and the Hoosiers!

Iirc, that was his first HR at any level of baseball. It was an amazing feat.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Nobadeer - 10-05-2024

Tommy Edman in game 1 of the NLDS, 2 for 4, 1 run, 1 steal for victorious Dodgers.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Nobadeer - 10-07-2024

Kris Bubic has had a bit of a star-crossed career for KC, but tonight he was awesome for the victorious Royals at Yankee Stadium.

2 scoreless innings of relief, he allowed 2 hits; in the 7th he struck out Gleybar Torres on a curveball looking, got the mighty Juan Soto on a long fly to left, and then in the 8th, he held presumptive MVP Aaron Judge to an infield single and induced Giancarlo Stanton to ground into an inning-ending double play. Bubic was grinning as he walked off the mound, enjoying possibly his finest MLB moment!

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Nobadeer - 10-09-2024

Kris Bubic took the L for KC tonight. He'd thrown just 22 pitches over 2 scoreless innings on Monday, highlighted by getting Giancarlo Stanton to hit into a double play on a low inside pitch.

So tonight, Bubic faced Stanton again, and threw him a series of off-speed pitches, ending in a low inside curve. Which Stanton reached down and golfed out of the park for a solo homer that was the winning run for the Yanks. Stanton apparently is second only to Babe Ruth in postseason homer frequency. Bubic won the battle on Monday but Stanton prevailed tonight. Sigh.

Bubic needed 26 pitches for his one inning. He probably won't be pitching in tomorrow's game.

Mark your calendars for May 31 2025. No idea if there will be a home game that day.  If there is, parking will be … difficult. Coldplay will play at Stanford Sstadium.

I hope there is a home game that day.  That will be the weekend of the NCAA regional tournaments.

Excellent point. But my parking warning still stands.

Thanks, Bob.  Looks like these games will be free.  Am I correct?

Yes they are free.
