I was more reveling than answering your question. Sorry. Anyway, the superimposed audio of the two announcers is awesome. Joe Davis obviously listened to the Vin Scully clip 100s of times, but still impressive he had the presence of mind to mimic Scully.

That is a great video clip.  It's amazing how similar were those two HRs.  Both to the same spot in right field and both players playing through injuries.  I'll bet Joe Davis only dreamed that he would ever be able to make that call mimicking Vin Scully.

No doubt both of those hits will be remembered well after we are all gone.  I wonder if that were true if the Dodgers did not win those two World Series?

Yes, lots of coincidences.  Both walk off homeruns in WS game 1 too. But it helps that both Gibson and Freeman bat left handed.  

For those who care, one of the interesting stories behind the Gibson homerun is that no one knows what happened to the ball.  Originally, people assumed that a groundskeeper found it and gave it to Gibson, but when someone finally tried to confirm that, Gibson denied it.  So presumably a fan got it.  If the lucky owner had properly authenticated the ball at the time, it would have been worth a small fortune.  Probably a bigger fortune today.  But a lot of people have tried to track it down, and no one has come forward with a credible claim to having possession of it.   

The LA Times ran a story about the kid who got the Freeman ball after it hit the seat in front of him.  I'm heartened that, despite the ball's seven-figure value, no one plowed over the kid to take it from him.  Given what I saw of the fans at Yankee stadium, I don't think a kid would have been shown the same consideration there.  I also wonder why there was an empty seat in front of the kid, and whether the person who had that ticket regrets not being in their seat when Freeman hit the grand slam.

Tommy Edman made the most of a season in which he had only 139 regular season at-bats, hitting .237. I guess his strong post-season (.328) counts for a lot.

The Dodgers have three somewhat similar utility players -- Edman, Chris Taylor, and Kiké Hernández. Taylor (age 34) is in the last year of his contract. Hernández (age 33) is a free agent. It looks like the Dodgers have decided to make a long-term investment in Edman (age 29). Good for him!

I wanted Giants to get him.  But not at that price.  Dodgers simply don’t care about how much they spend. So they can enter these type of contracts and if it’s a bust – big deal. Most teams can’t afford that.

Have you looked up Tommy Edman in the Stanford Alumni database? There is a gmail address there for him.

Don't look now, but Edman is tied for the MLB lead in homeruns this season! 8^)
