looking like Dawn needs more than good refs to beat UCLA today - Betts is making herself known under the basket and the score is 57 - 37 UCLA with three minutes left in the third quarter.
Yeah, making the easy shots would help!

First time ever UCLA defeated a #1 team.

They are loaded. Timea Gardner from Oregon State hit a number of threes, a frosh from Finland is very polished. returning guard Jones hit maybe 5 threes, Betz was very good, much smoother and stronger, and then there's Rice, Dugaliesh, jaquez, and the rest.

If UCLA does not win a national championship with this line-up, C. Close needs to be fired.

I was noticing that too as I was watching that game. Boy, (or should I say girl) do they have a lot of good players.
Of course, they aren't always going to play that well, and if they meet a Yukon or an ND on an off day, who knows what will happen.
Just glad we don't have to play them (at least in the regular season).

UCLA ranked #1 in the new poll this morning, followed by UConn, Notre Dame (after their upset over USC), South Carolina (dropping three spots), Texas and then USC

In an alternate universe, this past weekend wouldn't have to be so star-studded for this school as we would have been fielding a starting lineup of JuJu, Miles, Citron, Kiki and Betts (and/or Hidalgo and Rice).

Yeah, I was watching the games and was disappointed that so many players were Stanford transfers or recruits we struck out on.

You can't help but be happy for Cori Close. She's taken a lot of criticism and continues to work hard, recruit hard, schedule hard. They really have put together a great team this year and with Kiki Rice buying in and leading the eventual transfer of Betts, Janiah Barker (who I really thinks add the missing piece with her explosiveness and versatility). Gardiner and Dugalic give them inside/out bigs who can face up and shoot. They found a heck of freshman point guard from Finland, she reminds me a bit of Maite Carzola from Oregon a few years ago, just fantastic. Jones is a shooter. Jacquez is a do-it-all player.
This team is solid and I think Cori deserves a pat on the back for continuing to push forward despite the lack of late season success. Getting to #1 in the AP Polls is something to be proud of and celebrate. They have a pretty favorable schedule the next 2 months, with really their next big test being in Feburary against USC.

I watched a bit of the UNC vs. Indiana game this morning. UNC really put the clamps on the Hoosiers. They won 69-39 with Indiana only scoring 13 points total in the 2nd half. Indiana played without Sydney Parrish. But the UNC defense pressured the ball relentlessly forcing bad shots and turnovers. Having Parrish would not have made much of a difference.
One of UNC's leaders is Indya Nivar. She had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. The Tar Heels will be quite a challenge for Stanford when they visit in February.

Such a D requires top-notch, indefatigable, relentless athletes. What happens when you sic such a D against a team of three-point specialists? We shall soon see.

UW Huskies women are up 3 on LSU women with 5 mins left in the game. UW was up double digits in the first half. LSU will probably win, but they are struggling.

LSU won, barely -- 68-67. Win resulted from a Washington TO with 20 seconds left, when Washington was ahead 67-66, followed by LSU basket with 1 second left.

Any truth to the rumor that Mulkey threated the refs with being thrown in a Bahamian jail if LSU lost?

Of the current Top 6 teams who can win the NCAA, there is stronger sense of urgency
among #2 UConn, #3 Notre Dame and even #6 USC to win it all this season:
- for #2 UConn, it's the final season for Page BUECKERS and maybe Azzi FUDD
- for #3 Notre Dame, it's the final season for CITRON, WESTBELD, KING, KARLEN
and most likely Olivia MILES
- for #6 USC, it's the final season for IRIAFEN, MARSHALL and TVO
Newly installed #1 UCLA is robustly built on their massive HS Class of 2022 base
consisting of AAs #1 BETTS, #2 RICE, #3 BARKER, #6 GARDINER, #19 JACQUEZ
and #22 JONES and ably supported by 5th year DUGALIC and freshman
Finnish PG phenom AARNISALO

Jennifer AZZI still has eligibility?!?!? How did she (and Geno) swing that?

TCU, led by Sedona Prince, just beat Notre Dame 76-68. Difference was in field goal shooting, and Prince's d. She had a near triple double, with 20 points, 20 rebounds, 8 blocks -- plus 4 assists and 3 steals, and 0 turnovers. Played all 40 minutes. At one point, ND was up 14, but TCU stormed back and took the game. Agnes E-N was one of only bench players who played, had 8 points for TCU. And Van Lith had 21 points, 7 assists. ND had only 3 points off the bench, with Hildalgo playing all 40 minutes, scoring 27. Bottom line, ND is not unbeatable.

ESPN’s recap credits Agnes for the key moment of the game - a 3 pointer to give TCU lead w 3:49 to go. Wish I could have seen the game - I saw HVL had three fouls by halftime so wonder if Agnes was defending HH later…

Agree, on wish I could have seen the game. It should have been televised somewhere, but I didn't see any possibilities.
