RE: MBB: Stanford vs. UNLV, 1PM, ACCNX -

Our bigs need to do a much better job defending in the paint. UNLV drove the lane and got to the hoop way to often last night. We are really missing Maxime's defense and shot blocking. The ACC teams will be working us inside so we best make the adjustment now. Like others, I'm thrilled with what Smith is doing for this team and for the program. We are improving and I'm not giving up hope on a dance card just yet. Okorie has so much upside and Dent-Smith is a real addition to this team. Those two will make the difference in some close ACC games. Onward and Upward!

Our interior defense wasn’t good at all. However this doesn’t surprise the coaches this are adjustments possible? Doubtful. The hope is Giltay plays more and more and develops quickly.

definitely seems like Giltay is on a trend of increasing playing time!

Just catching up. That's a tough loss. But when you have close games (STL, UNLV), sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. Good fuel for the fire in practice. Find a way to win. Giltay needs to shoot better than 1-4 FT lol. This team is now too good to endure that! His 14 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks is amazing though. Nine of his rebounds were offensive boards (five defensive). That's energy.

Didn't realize UNLV was playing without one of their starters (eye injury). Sigh.

And our star scorer needs to shoot better than 4 for 16!

I do sometimes give star players a pass for FG% since they're often the recipents of the ball in late shot clock situations where they have to put up a shot that they wouldn't normally choose (i.e. low-percentage situations).
Okpara and JDS had subpar FG%s (combined 5-17). When your star PG is having an off-night, the team has to step up. But 4-16 is not great. You're not convincing anyone that you had to try to bail out the team on 12 bad offensive possessions lol. And I'm sure Okorie knows it.
Hearing that UNLV was missing a starter that game means Stanford needs to step it up. I keep telling myself to trust Coach Smith and trust the process.
