Hambly contacts Wagner/she thinks about it/forwards an application to Hambly in about a week at least. Admissions shutdown for the holidays started December 24. That means most likely a decision was made by admissions in two weeks or less.
Stanford and all Ivy League schools are adamantly against rolling admissions. They strongly believe all applicants should be viewed together because there are so many highly qualified applicants. That philosophy is clearly crumbling.
I wonder if she'd been recruited &/or applied out of high school, but somehow got sweet-talked into attending Maryland? As far as her application in particular, we really don't know when she actually started on it either, but the Terp tea leaves were not looking too good at all this season. Maryland was 14-17 in 2024 (she red-shirted) then 8-22 this past season - I think I'd start considering other collegiate options too if I was in her Mizunos.
Otherwise, I'd heard rumblings of relatively quick turnarounds on admissions decisions by UGA in past years, all the way back to the 90s now that I think about it.
In re rolling admissions, I generally am fine with it being a controlled exception, but my sense is that PPO are more open to the option than previous administrations have been - same with faculty in general - as they work toward growing the undergrad population. The times, they are a-changin'.
Of course, this could wind up being a moot discussion if it turns out a different Lilly Wagner has enrolled - I've yet to find an announcement confirming her transfer in any news source or in social media, including her IG account.

I must be missing something here. Why is this case considered rolling admissions? We are in the middle of the regular application cycle for transfer students--the application opened in early August and the deadline for transfer applicants is March 15. Rolling admissions would imply that the student applied for transfer admissions after March 15.
What I see is an application submitted during the regular decision timeframe with an expedited decision so that the student-athlete can enroll winter quarter.

I would agree with this interpretation.

To me that is rolling admissions. For a long time (as the Ivy League still does) there was a specified deadline with the entire applicant pool being reviewed together. With less than a two week decision I don't see how she was compared to all the other applicants.
As a WVB fan here is my concern. She was the starter at Maryland. At Stanford if Parks and Yu are healthy Wagner will likely be a third string setter seeing no meaningful playing time. Will she decide warming the bench is not her thing and go back into the transfer portal in December. I don't know but it's a concern.
If somehow Parks and Yu are both injured Wagner will be a lifesaver for the Stanford team. I accept Coach Hambly's thinking about that.
Ten days ago there was a big article put out by UM volleyball about how Wagner was the face of Maryland volleyball. I don't see it now. It wouldn't surprise me if Hambly told her to keep the transfer lowkey for awhile.

Well - sure she could and this is happening in other sports (e.g. Stanford MBB with Oziyah Sellers here for just a year after transferring from USC, then moving on to St. Johns), and other schools - there're just no guarantees on retaining players anymore in this day and age of NIL, the portal, etc. As BC points out, the same is true with verbal commitments, commits can flip any time.

Surely Wagner completely understood the situation here but transferred anyway.
Can’t wait for the banquet to find out

With Yu’s nagging injury and Parks concussion, I think a 3rd setter is necessary. Logan Tusher showed that this past season. If Tusher wasn’t on the team, who would have set when both parks and Yu were out? Remember when both Xu and Miner were out? Tufuaga had to set. We all know how that turned out.
Just like BobK said, I’m sure Wagner is aware of the setter situation and pecking order.

I saw Laurie Corbelli (Rachel's mother) play for the San Jose Golddiggers in the late 1980s. She was the leader on court.

So I admit to being a bit shocked on these numbers for Nebraska. Maybe I shouldn’t be, but I don’t see how we compete.
And checkout some of the other school numbers.

As I read it yes it’s everything and not just NIL. Regardless it means Nebraska is spending at a minimum 2x what we are for women’s volleyball. A bunch of that money has to be going to NIL plus our travel expenses have to be higher.

Michigan just announced their schedule for four spring matches including one with Pitt. What is the possibility Hambly allows one team scrimmage open to the public this spring?
With two freshmen starting early and one setter transfer there is much to be excited about seeing how things are shaping up early on. I really want to see what Wagner can do.
Have the two new assistants moved yet to the area and on campus doing stuff?
