Amazing what Coach Smith has done with this team given the shortage of high end ACC talent and the injury to Okpara.

For next year only Okorie (fingers crossed he returns) and Camman have secured spots. All the redshirts this year need to step up but not sure if there is even one starter in that group. Incoming freshmen class looks solid but need to add talent. Another physical big and a forward who can score would materially improve the team. The portal (potentially in both directions) is a brobdingnagian unknown at this point.

If Coach Smith can get and develop some high end players I feel pretty confident his coaching is pretty solid relative to most of the ACC programs.

After some great games earlier in season, and some stinkers, mostly after Okpara got injured, seems like Coach and team are re-coming together at the right (last minute) time.

As for yesterday - what a game! So happy for Benny & his entourage - all wearing their "Benny Buckets" t-shirts. With all that's wrong with college sports, true student-athletes like Benny keep me coming back for more.
One additional point. Ebuka had one post-game interview. He almost went to Harvard. His dad urged him to take a look at Stanford. He’s very much into education. My (optimistic) prediction: he’ll be around for two more years.

What an awesome game to attend in person. Benny went out a hero, and our team really showed out for senior day. Outside of Okorie, most of our three-point production came from Gealer, Agarwal and JDS, so it'll be interesting to see who steps up next year for us. It was also an interesting set of mismatches yesterday, because we had much better outside shooting and guard coverage, but when SMU could get the ball inside to within 5 feet of the rim, we basically had no answer. We just did a much better job taking away the passing lanes than they did smothering our shot outside. I was also surprised they went to a zone for a while, because we had already been shooting well from outside, but it seemed like the SMU coach was running through every tactic to see if any would work (including, for a while, pressing). 

Congrats to Coach Smith for producing a team that was far greater than the sum of its parts, and for spotting the diamond in the rough that is Okorie. I have no idea what his future intentions are, but he came to part of the women's game today and was really gracious about taking pictures and chatting with fans. He's the first BB player since Cam Brink that I can think of who has the "big man/woman on campus" vibe that naturally draws crowds. Here's hoping he continues to do so for at least one more season!

Very cool 2006alum! And now on to the next cross country flight east. If everything works out, it might not even be the last trip east for the team this season? I had forgotten that ND is in the Eastern time zone.

In the previous 6 ACC away games on the East Coast, LSJU was outshot on free throws by 142 to 70, which is a gigantic (brobdingnagian?) disparity. It's as if LSJU started every ACC away game down 10-0.

Ah, I didn't realize that they were staying. 

Hard to be optimistic about these east coast games, though.  Since joining the ACC we have a total of 3 road wins in conference + the ACC Tourney opener over Cal last year.  Maybe this ACC thing was a bad idea?

Yes 2006 and Burger are right, I had heard the team was staying in NC straight through after the NC State game. Could be a ~ 11 or 12 day road trip if all goes very well! 

Cammann has been a revelation. He never scored in double figures last season. This season, his first career double figures game was vs lowly Montana State in November, then the second was 3 months later, in the L to Clemson last month. He's currently on a 4-game heater in which he's averaged: 14+ pts, 6+ reb, 2+ ast and 1 blk, and only 2+ fouls (after being whistled for 4 or 5 fouls in 9 different games through early Feb.) I had briefly met one of his grandparents at an event in SoCal last fall and she said, "He's really good and just needs to show it!"

ESPN has our recruiting class at #23 for this upcoming season. I am hoping Coach Smith can point to this and tell him even though we are graduating a lot of contributors, reinforcements led by Olajuwon are coming in. Hopefully, Okorie will see a tandem of him and Olajuwon as an enticing prospect to keep playing on the Farm

If everyone comes back, we have 11 on the roster and 4 frosh coming in.
