RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - BostonCard - 03-01-2026

Does this mean we are locked into the 13th seed in the ACC tournament?  I think we will be in a three or four way tie (depending on whether Cal takes care of business against SMU), but lost head to head against the two teams we are tied with (Miami and Ga Tech) and went 1-1 with Cal if they fall into a tie for 10th.

We would then play the 12th seed, for the honor of playing the fifth seed (Va Tech or Syracuse).

That was a great game.  Now let's see if they can win a couple of ACC tourney games.  If so I will believe we have finally turned a corner.  I hated the subbing, or lack thereof, as others have said.  Only one lousy minute for the seniors in a big blowout?  Same for Ezike and Amborn.  What message does that send to them?  Am I the only one who remembers talk of team depth early in the season?  Where did that go?

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - Card10Fan - 03-01-2026

So still no idea what is ailing Talana?

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - stopandpop - 03-01-2026

Congratulations to Stanford.  I still don't like the structure of the offense, BUT, the team is learning how to better execute within that structure.  Eschmeyer 3 of 4.  She could be a more impactful player if the other players look for her but also if some plays are run for her.  Nice momentum coming into the Tournament.

Same thought on the PG. Shay has been in the lineup the last 3 games and we're on pace to go 3-0. Less offense from her compared to Chloe but it seems like the right people are taking shots instead and defensively energy better.

Kudos to Coach & team for this mini run. And I completely agree w this post, that Shay brings a special mojo that spills over to her teammates.

i wonder if chloe's fully healthy. she averages 12 points a game on 37% shooting. iirc she had a 28point game. an 0 for 4 game is not like her. might she have lingering effects of the concussion she suffered earlier in the year?

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - Card10Fan - 03-01-2026

I think we are #13 seed playing Miami on Wednesday. Winner gets #5 Notre Dame. Does this look right to the Bracket experts?

I had similar thoughts on Chloe's health

Wow. Just wow. Today’s WBB is on The (Execrable) CW. But I’ll do my best to get it posted on my Youtube channel. (PM me for details.)  pretty sure I got the men’s game.

Gostanford has only linked the audio feed. Apparently they, too, can’t work with this so-called network either.
Update: both MBB and WBB this weekend were on The CW. Which is no longer offering replays. I think I got the MBB game from espn. WBB? Will keep looking.

I suggest a letter-writing campaign to the ACC protesting their continued support of The CW. Before I launch this, if anyone has a link to a replay of these games I’d appreciate it.

Wait, so this game won't show up in a few days on the ACC YouTube channel? Grrrr. Another reason to hate the CW games.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - Nobadeer - 03-01-2026

I can understand why coach left the starters in until almost the very end. After losing 8 of 9 since mid-January, finally LSJU reels off 3 straight wins, the last two in the biggest blowouts since early November. It was good to see the team's top players feeling the mojo of dominating wins, against ACC opponents no less, going into the league tournament! And, the top players will all need to play a lot in the tournament, and hopefully, beyond. Might as well get used to it. Tournament basketball, for M and W teams, seems to always lead to shorter benches and a 7 or 8 player circle of trust.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - Griffins78 - 03-01-2026

With Shay at point, she’s the on court coach telling everyone what to do and where to go. I think that has made a big difference with Talana out. Our offense has moved better.

On defense. Shay helps out a lot, especially in the post and in passing lanes. Mostly she frustrates the other team’s PG. and she brings relentless energy and quickness.

I was very impressed with how she was getting everyone to move, move, move!

And Talana on the bench looked to still be giving advice to the young'uns.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - 2006alum - 03-01-2026

Have more thoughts later, but spoke briefly with two different folks who know about Lepolo (one family member, one person close to the athletic department) - apparently she had an unrelated-to-sports serious health issue that involved hospitalization and is done for the season. This probably explains why she was not on the bench the last several weeks, even for home games, and probably why they did the abbreviated senior day tributes.

Really hope whatever it is, she makes a full recovery, and really sorry to that the past few months were her last in a Stanford uniform.

The bracket - https://theacc.com/documents/2025/12/2//2026_WBBT_Bracket_ALLY_NEW.pdf

Stanford plays Miami at 8 am pacific/11 am eastern on Wednesday with the winner taking on Notre Dame at 10:30 am pacific/1:30 pm eastern on Thursday.

I think that is not a good draw for Stanford. Don't like the early game time(s). But regardless of the circumstances, Stanford still better bring the same intensity that they had this weekend.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - paloalto - 03-01-2026

Second quarter.  Somfai fade-away jump shot.  Nothing but net. A thing of beauty.

What an enjoyable game to watch.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - M T - 03-02-2026

Great 3 quarters!

So, what changed in Q4 ????   I hope it wasn't the woofing gods punishing those who dared to think of 100 points.
 77 points in 3 quarters and only 8 points in Q4 ?!
(and, as well noted, the starters played 80% of the quarter)

My feeling at the game was that Paye was trying to get the team to do something differently on offense and they weren't as smooth.  I thought this was as good a time to try as any. (That would explain the late subs.)  But they never got it going in Q4.

In Q4, Stanford started jacking up 3-pointers hitting 1 of 8.  They weren't getting all the good looks they had been getting and instead too often had to throw it up as time ran out.  Was it the defense, the offense, tortoise effect, personnel ??
7:42 Somfai (made), 6:42 Swan, 6:01 Ijiwoye, 5:30 Somfai, 4:13 Eschmeyer, 3:53 Ogden, 2:28 Agara, 1:30 Swain

While Agara got a double-double, Somfai just missed a double-double by one rebound.  She got 6 assists today (a rate of 7.38 A/40 minutes ; prior to today, she was averaging 2.12 A/40 minutes).  That's part of what was working.

Zone defense.  No idea why Coach didn’t put in zone buster Amborn.   We were up by a lot and on defense, Clemson wasn’t a quick driving offense without their best player.

I was sitting behind the baseline. It seemed like our players weren’t making the proper reads and had to be directed to the right spots against the zone. Kate said in the presser that Clemson threw in a box-and-1 in addition to the 2-3 so that may have caused some of the confusion. Probably why Kate kept the starters in so long.

RE: WBB Stanford Clemson - crackpot - 03-02-2026

As stinky as the fourth quarter was, I was surprised to look at the box score and see we only lost it by one.
