Last 5 min. Didn’t like the stat that 12/23 goals conceded this year were in the final 15 minutes of play. Or that much of the last 10 minutes have been at the Stanford end.

Looked like the video replay could have gone either way but the ref let it be decided on the field. Can't really argue with that.
Okene, FSU's GK, is the player of the match in my opinion.

Their goalie made tremendous saves especially in the first half. We could have been up 3-9, but fate had other ideas. They had fewer scoring opportunities but made one of them count and that was the difference.
Disappointing loss as this yeah had the players to win the championship.

KZSU announcers described the FSU goal as fluky. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good? :(
Doesn't feel like the first time I've seen a Stanford team batter an opposing goal with shots, only to lose 0-1 to an opponent who saved their offensive aggression for late.
I hate to see all the seniors leave on this kind of note. Still a great team, great season, right up until the last bit.

Certainly not a set piece. After the corner ball deflected and bounced towards the endline, an FSU player got to it first just before it went out, rocketing a low ball across the goal. Our back post (?) player lunged out and deflected it away from the goal but unfortunately right to an FSU player.
Sadly, if there was no deflection, I think the ball would have traveled all the way to the other side of the box.

I wouldn’t call it flukey. Anytime you have a strong centering pass and an unguarded player at the far side of the goal you are begging for trouble. We’ve made a living off goals like this, so I don’t think we can discount FSU’s.
Them’s the breaks in soccer. I’d say overall we gave ourselves a better chance to score over the course of the match, but the advantage wasn’t so overwhelming; both sides had some good chances, either side could have won, and they just got the one that we couldn’t stop. Ockene had a great match. Birkel was overshadowed, but I thought she played well too.

Fla St. played way better than BYU, Mich State, Duke. Their goalie did well but not all of our shots were as well struck or placed as in the previous four games.
Soccer can be cruel. Hard to lose in the 87th minute after out shooting and out possessing the opponent. Just like how the LSJU men lost to UW 1-0 in the same 87th minute last Sunday after a first half where, like the LSJU women tonight, they had at least three excellent goal chances.
(UW, unseeded, is now in the men's College Cup this weekend. I'd root for them but they had two players who were more subtly ornery and after-the-whistle than even most college men players, and got away with it. So no, I hope UW loses by a lot to Furman.)

What you are describing is not a uniquely Stanford thing. Plenty of cases where the team that played better overall is not rewarded on the scoreboard. It’s not even a uniquely soccer thing.

The post-shot xG differential shows that Stanford created and took shots from better and more dangerous positions than FSU (closer to goal, clearer sightlines, less pressure) and then executed the shots exceptionally well (much better than FSU executed). The FSU goalkeeper just had an all-time NCAA finals goalkeeping performance. Stanford's post-shot xG in the Michigan State, where it scored 5 goals, was only slightly higher at 2.37. And last year, when we failed to score against Wake Forest in the semis, our post-shot xG was 0.43. This might hurt even more given how well the team actually played.
