You're right. Tyler Rogers led the league in games pitched in both 2020 and 2021 and pitched nearly twice as many innings as his brother. Still think Tyler is a bargain at $730k.

I wouldn't say much better. Hitting is the most important but it's not the whole thing, of course. Dubon reached the majors in 2019.

Dubon (2019-2022): 185 games played, 537 plate appearances, 2.3 bWAR.

La Stella (2019-2022): 217 games played, 815 plate appearances, 3.1 bWAR.

Adjusting for playing time it's pretty close, and Dubon is presumably in his prime (27 years old) while La Stella is 33.

He was phenomenal last year, while earning $583,000 (barely over the minimum). Tremendous value. He recorded 2.5 bWAR last year, which is worth over $21 million on the open market. Every team dreams of a tenth round pick contributing as he has.

No question he’s a bargain. And a key cog in the bullpen. He will rebound. There was a time when it was looking possible that they would have both. Would have been nice.

They need the 2021 versions of Rodgers and McGee. The bullpen is a tad thin without that. McGee should be back soon. Let’s see if he returns with his high fastball. He needs that to be effective.

Speaking of Tyler, Baggerly has an interesting article on him today. He was had 55 balls hit fair off him this year. 1 was barreled. He’s given up the softest contact of any pitcher in the league. The BABIP against him is around .380. Despite the soft contact. If he keeps pitching as he has, he will start getting results.

Kapler announces he will boycott the Anthem. Every right to do so an an individual. But he represents an organization. And this is sure to create controversy. Meaning a distraction for his team - and perhaps some division within the team as I suspect some find his action disrespectful etc. As such, I think it was a poor decision. I also think there is a grandstanding element.

Be interesting to see how this plays out. Especially as Monday is Memorial Day.

Only people looking to make controversy will make Kapler's action into a controversy. Who could read his incredibly well thought out statement and have any problem with him at all?

He made a blog post that explained why he has decided to stay away from field for the national anthem, so anyone wondering where he is when anthem is played, would know and why. It was a personal decision, not some public grandstanding. He didn't want to make a spectacle of himself, but knew he had to provide an explanation so he could avoid any future questions on the topic.

Didn't Kapler kneel before every game during the Covid season? whatever distraction or effect it has on the team's internal dynamics it's nothing new with him.

OTOH it has to be distracting to have players engage in a pregame physical altercation on the field stemming from a fantasy football league dispute!

Well, “making controversy “ is an art form these days. Social media being what it is. And, I hate to tell you this OF, but there are actually people that feel differently than you. Particularly when it comes to the Anthem. (FTR (as they say) if I were King, I’d only have the anthem played on special days. During baseball season, Memorial Day and July 4 ).

We shall see. Memorial Day is Monday. I’ll be surprised if this isn’t made an issue. I do hope I’m wrong.

Kneeling with players in support of BLM was a little different than generally announcing a boycott. Hey, I hope I’m wrong.

Everybody should kneel on Memorial Day. Not political.I kneel for Great Uncle Versey, a vet of the Indian Wars, a Rough Rider and a sniper in WW1. Taught my mom to shoot doves. I kneel for my dad, USA Field Artillery. My brother, a K War vet, my father in law who kept patching up holes in aircraft during the Battle of Leyte, my cousin’s two tours in Vietnam as a field officer in the Air Cav. And for Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbb and all the mud he had to eat.

Politically speaking, Kapler's in a bind. He was an unpopular hire for a number of reasons -- mediocre record in Philadelphia among them. But what really chapped the collective virtue-signaling hide of the SF Bay Area community -- maybe not the baseball fan community, but the broader community -- was that, pre-hire, Kapler seemed to be complicit in covering up a sexual assault for one or more Dodger minor leaguers. He was put on notice and put under a microscope. He apologized profusely, but realized that is insufficient for Giants players and staff who need to establish and keep a public posture that indicates that they are good people and condemn bad behavior. Therefore, Kapler has had to be particularly visible in that regard since he was hired. Doesn't have much to do with baseball, but this public face of Kapler is much different than pre-Giants Kapler...though it may be consistent with the private Kapler.

My uncle won the Silver Star in combat in Normandy and the Purple Heart, posthumously, at the Bulge. I honor him, as well as 8 other family members who served in WW1, WW2, Korea, VN and current active duty.

As a lifelong Giants fan, and as a sensitive human being, I have no issues with Gabe Kapler whatsoever.

I'd guess 10s of millions of voters and even more who didn't vote in the last election would have a problem with him. Not surprisingly, count me as one of them.

For what it's worth, I share Kapler's deep concern over the direction of this country and especially our leadership. That said, like him or not, Biden is still my president, and I'll always stand for our National Anthem.

We have our issues for sure, none that I'm allowed to discuss here of course, but our country is uniquely special. I think this quote sums up America nicely.

Help me understand. He made a blog post so it's not public grandstanding or making a spectacle of himself hoping to avoid future questions on the topic. Seems like just the opposite. What am I missing?

Today the family is in Memphis and we are visiting the grave of my grandson’s aunt who was killed by “street racers” doing 110mph on a city boulevard. A 40 something doing great things for humanity at a pharmaceutical.

I understand Lex but the older I get the more mellow I become. Kapler and Kerr believe enough to speak out and good for them. The world needs mellowing.

Time for lunch with Bobbbbbbb.

Thanks, all for the thoughtful response. To be clear, I’m not in any way against his protest as an individual. Protest is part of the freedoms we enjoy (and so many take for granted). I just question if it will hurt the teams he leads.
