Agreed. Coach TT was adamant he wanted and expected to play Power 5 football and was willing to travel to do it.

And I gotta believe this solidifies his boffo 2024 recruiting class.
In fact, I'd not be surprised if we get further commits/net transfers in rather than out, that build the class up more.

Honestly it isn't a crazy idea at all, although I wouldn't limit it to athletes. Maybe a semi-permanent, small campus in Texas or in DC or something which would be fulsome enough to allow both athletes and non-athletes to take a variety of classes, but not a full campus or anything close to it. Do an 8-9 day swing to the East Coast and play a couple games. Save on travel / time zone shift.
We ARE a NATIONAL Univ (actually Global). Frankly ORST and WAST are not. That's just the case.

Oh. So that makes them getting f——d ok? I’m not blaming Stanford, mind you. But this whole thing stinks to high heaven. And it will get worse.
I’m glad Stanford and Cal found a soft landing. But again… This is a failure of the system. The only way to have stopped this was university presidents getting off their ass and actually doing something very early on. Making it clear that these are extra curricular activities and we’re simply not going to allow it. But that didn’t happen so here we are. Because, of course, money talks, bullshit walks.

It is odd that they fought Stanford and Cal for so long, two storied programs.
unc women's soccer coach anson dorrance said the travel to the west coast would be hard on players and staff. and that's for 2 games per year. this decision is going to be a killer for women's basketball and volleyball, among other sports.
p.s. muir just sent out an email saying much of the travel will occur over weekends. ha! and the travel doesn't affect 22 of 36 sports. way to be deceptive, dude! only 14 sports! does he think we are stupid?

Certainly feels like we just signed a giant contract/settled a big case, are breathing a sigh of relief and planning to get some sleep over the weekend, but have kicked about 1000 open issues down the road that are gong to be nightmares.

I think it was because UNC considers themselves to be in the same category as FSU and Clemson, and all three want the ACC to go away "earlier than currently possible" because they see it to be in their interests. UNC may be delusional in thinking of themselves this way, but apparently they do.
NC State was simply tied to UNC's vote ... until it wasn't. That's state politics there, mostly, I think, and a realization that NC State, no matter what, is not in the same group as FSU and Clemson and when push comes to shove Carolina would probably treat them the same way UW and UO treated WSU and OSU. So they flipped.

While travel is a burden, I think the conference will come up with some creative ideas to mitigate it. There has to be compromise in a changing sports landscape. What I'm most concerned about is Cal's financial math to pay for all their Olympic sports.

That brings to mind a memory I have of the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville in 1986, and passing a concession on the way into the stadium that was selling T-Shirts blaring "Stanford Cardinals! Go Birds!".

PS -- We almost beat Clemson in that game! But that was an entirely different time in college football, and an entirely different Clemson program.

There were a couple of years where we actually WERE the birds. Not sure if one of them was '86, though.

I seem to be in the minority camp here...Today I have a smile on my face because Stanford just told the whole world "it's important to us to compete at the highest levels." The B10 and B12 were not interested. We were very much stuck. Any move to the MWC or the WCC or whatever Independent/combination solution people were dreaming up would have resulted in the deterioration of so many of our perennial national championship contending teams. While the travel will be onerous, if you asked the players on these teams "which would you prefer - compete in the ACC with more travel or compete against the MWC?", I'm quite certain what the answer would be. Thank goodness we got this done.
