I'm not sure if that was a response to my post.  I was referring to the risk of losing more players by having a coaching change portal open up after the regular portal.  We've already lost our chance of retaining players who might of stayed with a change, but then could lose more players who might leave because of a change. Like happened with the Troy Taylor firing. A coaching change after the regular portal is the worst scenario in terms of timing.

I just realized that Charmin was called back from here several-days stint in the W to become H/C after Gottlieb took the job with the Cavaliers. I guess that assistant thing does sometimes work out.

Donahoe answers to the Board and to the major donors.  If he hasn't made a move, it's probably because major donors (or the Board?) are backing KP or Donahoe cannot engage a hiring firm to find a suitable, successful replacement.  It's unlikely that he's sitting on his hands because he wants to.  This is not a great situation, and there are no obvious solutions.

But it doesn’t stop him from communicating… something, even if it’s that no decision has been made.

With all due respect, is it really the optimal use of the Athletic Director's time to be writing personal responses to a bunch of emails from irate fans?  It seems to me that his time is better spent addressing things relating to ongoing operations, such as tomorrow's CardinalPalooza, the various ACC championships in which Stanford teams are currently participating, and the like.  Certainly, I hope he is addressing the WBB situation among those things, but writing personal responses to complaints from fans does vary little to actually address the issues in that situation.

Moreover, whether providing a statement personally or publicly, and assuming that, for whatever reasons, the decision has been made to retain Paye for next season, I'm interested in what sort of statement people think would be beneficial?  "Hello, I just wanted to let people know that we're not firing our coach!"  ? Or maybe: "Isn't it a shame that we had a lousy season and many of our upper class players have left, but we're going to plow on regardless"?  Of course, he could also say "We're keeping the coach, but I can assure that if she doesn't do a whole lot better next season, she's gone," or "My predecessor unfortunately made the wrong decision in taking Tara's advice, but, due to contractual issues, we're stuck with it for at least another year."  I'm not sure any of those would be better than silence, nor would some AI-generated pablum about how things are looking up, everyone's looking forward to next season, and so forth.  A statement like that would probably cause multiple fans' heads to explode.   In short, issuing a statement following a disappointing season in which an AD says "we're not going to fire the coach" isn't something I've seen very often.

On the other hand, if we ARE firing the coach, I certainly agree that it should have been done by now...in which case we almost certainly would have heard something already.

Finally, I imagine Donahoe will be hanging somewhere around the STM event at tomorrow's football practice [if he isn't out-of-town at some ACC tournament].  Find him and ask him in person...

The reason he should write back is because he promised he would:

"We are being thoughtful in our approach and expect to share more publicly in the coming week."

If he thought there was no point in sharing more publicly if we were going to keep Paye, then he shouldn't have promised it not knowing the outcome of the decision. HE decided he would commit to sharing more, so that's why we're expecting it. 

And BTW, it's easy to do something even if it's to retain the coach. The only comparable situation to ours are Tennessee and Iowa State, where both teams had mass transfers and there were calls to fire the coach. BOTH ADs immediately addressed the situation publicly mere DAYS after the transfers were announced, and Tennessee fired two assistant coaches. And btw, as far as I know there were no allegations of abuse by either of their coaches, which is what makes an explanation to the public even more warranted here than there.
