I think it will take at least a couple more games before we really get an idea about where many teams stand directionally (good, bad, meh).

Agreed, we don't know enough yet.  That said, I'm very excited about McKee, his receivers and his pass protection, not too excited about Jones, extremely excited about Peat, and jaw droppingly excited about the defense.  Coaching seems to have migrated in a positive direction, too.

P. S. I'm still sticking with the 9-4 prediction.

I ***STILL*** hear about this from my Aggie alum wife. She also regularly reminds me that in that same year, we also lost in MBB and were swept a 2-gmae baseball series. Thanks Robin Mamlet...

For some reason, the Utes have ownage on the Cardinal.

You beat me to the point I was going to make, Teejers. Shaw is 1-3 vs. Utah. Since joining the P12, the Utes have been a bad matchup for Stanford. Their defense always seems to push Stanford around. And WSU is not an automatic W. Stanford has not defeated the Cougars since 2015.

The Cougs are not looking great under new coach Rolovich. They gave up 420 total yards, including 318 passing, to FCS Portland State. And they lost to Utah State in their home opener week 1.

The Leach boogeyman is gone.

Would anyone like to revise their prediction for Stanford wins this season?

Not possible.  I think I said 6 or 7.  Too optimistic.

I predicted 4-8. No way Stanford wins anymore than 3.

Well, barring a miracle, it looks like I won the prediction pool this year. I was the only one to predict three wins. I give all credit to David Shaw.

when making an acceptance speech, it's important to be modest and give credit where credit is due.
i give you props for doing just that.

Please don't utter that name again.  A couple of drops of blood and a spell in ancient Sumerian well open the gates of hell.

Hmmmm- maybe its too late already.

RE: Stanford Football 2021 Predictions - MV72018 - 11-21-2021

I was way off in my prediction. Originally I predicted 6-6, then 4-8, now it looks as if 3-9 will be how it winds up. Pathetic. The level of futility I saw out there yesterday was on a par with what I recall of the days of Buddy and Wlat. Shaw's playcalling was truly dismal. And, pace Shaw, I wouldn't call it "aggressive"; it was stupid. Even Scott Reiss on the radio broadcast said just before 3rd down from the 3, that if Shaw was going to run on 4th, he had to run and pick up a yard or two on 3rd. But he didn't and then compounded the farce by calling a sneak from the 3 on 4th down. Yikes!

By the way, while I like Tanner McKee, I must say that his side-armed delivery is SUSPECT. He threw at least one side-armed INT yesterday.  And the first INT he threw was very surprising to me. He didn't lead the receiver going left to right, so he had to slow down, giving the defender time to come in and intercept the ball, with ease. I was quite shocked at that play. On the side-armed INT, he threw a ball too far ahead of the receiver and the defender had no problem intercepting it.

Compare McKee's mechanics with those of Alabama AB Bryce Young. He throws a beautiful ball with an overhead release, either a bullet or a floater, as needed. I don't see McKee right now as has having the ability to drop balls in over defenders between him and his receivers. How can that be with a guru such as "Coach Pritchard" there to instruct him in the fine art of QBing?

Tanner mechanics could be a function of his recent knee injury,  oline blocking issues  or a combination of both, defense of the oline they are having to hold blocks longer while wr's try to get separation.

RE: Stanford Football 2021 Predictions - Phogge - 11-21-2021

McKee come out? LOL.

RE: Stanford Football 2021 Predictions - winflop - 11-21-2021

McKee clearly was not 100%, but even at 70% he was better than any of the other options.

The core problem was that we were a one-dimensional offense, due to both our inability to run and being down 2/3+ scores in the second half (thanks to Shaw's awful decisions and playcalls on the first two drives).

Cal did to us what we used to do to other teams - make them one-dimensional on offense. It's a much easier game when you do.

Combined with our Limburger defense and you have a recipe for a curbstomping.

Next week will be even worse. I'm thankful I got good money for my tickets
