One Bay Area guy wasn't impressed by Toby and voted for Ingram. Barry Tompkins.

The problem is not us. The problem is that Stanford as a whole is not putting a compelling offering out there for consumers to enjoy. The school, the athletic department, and the team are all complicit in diminishing what was once a worthwhile experience.
It all went downhill after they banned beer from the stadium.

I was too and I will be for every home game left on the schedule. I won't come back until Shaw is gone.

You keep saying this as if it's new information.

If conveying new info was a necessary condition for posting on this board, there would be few posts on this site.

When was that? It was gradual, right? I remember they instituted the "six pack ban" in 1987 (couldn't bring in more than a six pack
and you had to be over 21). When did the stadium go booze-free? 1990?

Someone with a better memory should take that one. My freshman year, fall of '66, frats were bringing kegs into the student section, which was basically anywhere on the sunny side where you could stake out some seats. But next year was the Summer of Love and as a dutiful participant in the 60's, I don't remember anything after that until Plunkett hit Bob Moore in the end zone in front of us at the Rose Bowl, LOL.

When I was a freshman in 1977 I had a friend who smuggled booze into the stadium in ziplock bags under his hat. So the ban must have been pre 1977.

I recall yet another weenie altercation in which a rogue weenie threw a bottle that hit a Stanford fan in the head after the 1989 BG. Or something along those lines.
Voila: Booze banned, beginning with the 1990 season. That showed 'em!

No, well after. Took a pony keg into the stadium in '82. Back then the container had to be within a certain size. The police officer at the gate told us we couldn't bring it in, as it was too large. We told him to measure it. He pulled out his tape measure, did the length and started laughing, and in we went, keg and all. . . .

Yep, 1990.
For those of you saying it was the 1970's -- alcohol was banned then too. Andy Geiger revoked the ban when he became A.D. in 1979.
They started talking about a ban again after the 1986 season, my freshman year.
It was actually banned after the 1989 season, when a fan died jogging back to his car at halftime to get more beer. Also, reportedly at Big Game that year, the Cal fans were throwing rocks and a fan got the tip of their nose cut off by a thrown beer can.
I can't find a news story regarding the actual vote, but here's an article about the proposal including a mention of the guy who died:
https://archives.stanforddaily.com/1990/01/11?page=1§ion=MODSMD_ARTICLE2
I also recall that there was some alumnus who stood up in the Faculty Senate hearing to argue, "I LIKE drinking beer in the stadium." No, he was not a future Supreme Court nominee.

I don’t remember drinking beer in the old stadium. Possibly because the rest room situation for women was impossible.

In 1980 or 81, our fraternity pledges we're tasked by Laird Cagen ( IIRC) to sneak into the stadium in the wee hours on game day and bury a keg or two in the dirt beneath the bleacher seats. Then they had to wait at the student entrance so they could be first to claim the seats surrounding the kegs, saving a sufficient number for house brothers. Red Solo cups for all!

An event like that and you can't remember which YEAR it was? Oy.

Perhaps that's because Marty was the beneficiary of multiple red solo cups full of beer from said kegs! Well played and I miss those days, although '82 was my freshman year.
