Wow, I watched that match while getting a haircut without knowing that one of the contestants was an alum. The French fencer was dominating, having scored all four touches in the first period, and leading 7-1 about a minute into the second. I thought it was going to be a rout. Then Kong changed epees, which seemed like something one would do out of desperation, and it was a whole other match. It was compelling enough that with about a minute left in the third period, after my haircut was done, I stayed to watch Kong score the tying point. The two were happy enough to let it go to sudden death OT, where Kong won.

You are incorrect. Katie Ledecky has never swum for the Florida Gators. The school does not list her as an Olympian from the school.
It would be correct to say “Stanford alumna Katie Ledecky takes Bronze in the women’s 400M freestyle.”

Huske and Manuel won silvers in the 4 x 100 free relay.
The "response time" is between when one swimmer touches the wall and the next leaves the blocks. Desirable is between 0.1 and 0.2 seconds. Huske's was 0.00!! If she had left the blocks any earlier, the team would have been disqualified! That was a close one.

Bob, I'm hoping the Greg Meehan is helping to coach Katie, while he's in Paris, but maybe I'm wrong as I'm not in the know re swimming. I think it's great to have him as part of the Olympic team coaching staff. I'm hoping we can have more men on the team in four years.

The Smith control and then shot that ended up being parried by the GK and then scored by Swanson was really impressive. Great skill and strength.

How do we feel about Regan Smith's Stanford association? She swam for and attended Stanford for one year, then turned professional. She now trains with the ASU coaches and attends classes at ASU (although she is ineligible as a pro to compete collegiately). Smith is the top qualifier in the 100m backstroke for tomorrow's finals.
