A championship team mini-reunion took place today when the Washington Mystics faced the Indiana Fever.
Ashten, Kiki, and Lexi all played in that game. None started, but they all played double minutes.

Kiki was a senior in high school when Stanford won in 2021.

I didn’t attend the banquet, but think this was mentioned there that they would be in a thanksgiving tournament in Las Vegas.

Wondering why no one has mentioned Nora Ezike's incredible performance for Nigeria in the U19 World Cup. Nigeria beat China for its first ever win and Ezike had 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. You can see all of her buckets on the Stanford Women's Basketball instagram account. She mostly scored on drives and looked very quick and fluid getting to the rim. If Agara shifts to the 3 and Somfai gets a lot of minutes in one of the post roles, then I think it will be a dogfight between Ezike, Eschmeyer and Umeh for the other post minutes. And it may depend on the opponent with Eschmeyer being more of a shooter, Umeh being a big physical post-up player and Ezike being more of a quick slasher to the rim.

Maybe it was nerves, or maybe she never really got the ball in the first quarter (I take it she was a new addition to the team). But she shined offensively in the 2nd half.
She looks like a great addition to Stanford, esp. when she can be taught defense (assuming she's quick enough to defend against NCAA players).

thanks for the link. she looks very raw to me. reminds me a bit of early agnes emma-nnopu.
i would expect we have somfai, nunu, mary ashley stevenson, and eschmeyer at post, backed up by umeh; with courtney ogden at the 3.

If I were to read an article in which a team coach shares a non-optimistic pre-season outlook on the team's current personnel and prospects for the upcoming season, then I'd be more likely to believe an article about a future season of the team in which the same coach expressed an "optimistic outlook" on that year's squad members and upcoming campaign. That said, it does look like there's some serious talent on the '25-'26 women's team. Here's hoping that, with thoughtful development of that talent and improvement in the caliber of coaching, the team will make some noise in the ACC and be invited to the NCAA Tournament in March.

A belated post, but I think there is only one answer on who a coach should play and that is the 5 players that give us the best chance to win a particular game. Generally, that is probably the same group from game to game, but there are always situations where a certain matchups make a change wise, and other times when a team may have a strong "glue" player, who maybe not in the top 5 makes the other four so much better that person should also start. Freshman have to earn their minutes in practice. Having the most talent doesn't necessarily mean that player should always start, experience and chemistry make a big difference. This year's team seems to be such that the Frosh are going to get their minutes regardless, but it remains to be seen. The players are going to play a lot of basketball between now and the season, there is bound to be some improvement for most and maybe significant for others. We will just have to wait and see.

There seems to be an unwritten rule that coaches are to say nothing but euphorically positive things about each team member in public media. Fine, but the informational value of such comments is virtually zero.

If you think of what a coach’s goal is during an outing to the media is, I think in order, they are:
* Not say anything remotely controversial that might land you in trouble (so press conferences are boring)
* Not say anything that will cause any strife within the team (so press conferences tend to be vague and positive)
* Not say anything that might help other teams (so they tend to be uninformative)
* Say things that will get fans to buy tickets (so they tend to be positive)
My conclusion is simply not to read into what coaches say to the media. From a coach’s perspective, it is really a box-checking exercise that they do because they have to, not because they enjoy it, and I think their goal is roughly to say as little substantive as possible.

super-quick indeed, confident and accurate on her lay-ups in traffic. i don't see a mid-range shot, a 3-point shot, or much defense, but i suppose those might emerge.
