I think there’s a chance. The big question, to me, is whether the last few minutes of the half was a one-time exception.
In ways, Virginia reminds me of an Oregon-Lite from the Chip Kelly spread days.
Speed, no huddle, big plays, playmakers spread out, lightning scores, and if you can’t figure it out, suddenly you are absolutely getting blown up the way William and Mary got blown up.
But most importantly, their protection is beatable, Stanford needs to get to the quarterback and when you fluster a quarterback, you’ll find that they’re suddenly not so accurate and infallible.
Has Stanford figured it out? To me, that’s the question. If they’ve figured out the offense and can disrupt it consistently, I’m saying there’s a chance. The running game is growing stronger. If the defense can get some stops, hopefully the offense in the second half grows stronger and stronger if they can do what they did to BC in the second half. And I do have faith in our coaches.

SO CLEM is done. 3 losses; no playoff. Flags at half mast in Death Valley.
Looks like MIAM vs FLST in ACC Champ game.
'Noles host the Canes in two weeks.

We sorely need a turnover before our D is completely gassed.

OK, lightning strike to speedster Bryce Farrell -- TD ! 70 yards.
He fast -- went sub-11 seconds in the 100 yard dash in H.S.

Going into Q4 now, down 20 to 38. Cavs may get 600 yards of Offense -- already at 516.
Here's where Cavs fall apart because it's past their bed time on ET.
Stanford lads are still on West Coast time at 7pm.

We held them to under 600 yards.

Well, that was awful and way worse than I expected.
San Jose won their game against Idaho, 31-28. Hope we don't get embarrassed next week.

I'm with the color announcer. Why not give Brown a little development time. I mean, BG doesn't have another year, does he?:) And, this loss wasn't BG's fault. Also, I thought Metcalf graduated five years ago.

Totally agree. I didn't expect us to win, but I thought it would be a reasonably close game, not a 28 point loss. As far as SJS is concerned it is a winnable game, but so was Hawaii. Who knows what is going to happen.

Noticeable in the ACC standings is that Stanford at 73 owns the "Fewest Points Scored" crown.
And we are among the five worst on "Points Scored Against"... sitting here at 1-3.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/standings
Hold on in Hawaii and we would be 2-2.
I conclude that going forward we MUST score more points than our foes (!!), and "pounding the rock" with a mediocre O-Line does not work.
We get behind and tend to stay behind.
At least we had the two long ball lightning strikes to Bryce Farrell... the few bright spots.
Gulbranson gets credits for those.
Defense must take more chances to get turnovers.
The Pick-6 was critical in the lone win against BC, as was stopping their drive with a fumble recovery.
So, more blitzes to get hurries or trigger a fumble.
That is what VIRG did to us. 6 sacks for -45 yards.
We are not in the top 100 teams for scoring points at just 18.3 a game. And we allow >400 yards a game.
Now, SJST at 17 scores fewer points than we do.
Next week in PA features two squads not in Top 100.

as someone posted on tos, does andrew luck want to be the next coach? he sure was coaching a lot from the sidelines yesterday.

I'm sure it would have been tough for him to just stand there and watch us get our butts kicked.

He trusts Reich enough to guide the ship. I think there's only so much Reich can do without micromanaging a team that he won't be around to hold accountable next year. It's on the staff to step up, imo.

I am a big fan of Luck but I think he needs to get off the sidelines on Game Day.
We have an interim coach. Every day, we are shopping for a new coach. It’s going to be harder to get a good new coach if the job entails having your boss on the sidelines talking to your players during the game. Would Harbaugh have taken the job under such conditions?
As much as Luck knows, sometimes a manager needs to step away and let his reports do their jobs, even if it means watching people make mistakes that get you so fired up you want to run down there and fix them yourself.

Totally agree. I would also point out that Luck has very, very limited coaching experience. If he is actually "coaching", that has to stop. If he is just out there cheer leading and motivating, MAYBE it is acceptable if he ask the HC about it, but IMO it is still very questionable.
Luck has no previous experience at being the GM of a college team, but since so few others do either, he is a reasonable choice given his known strengths. That is definitely not the case for the HC job. If Luck is thinking he should go that route, he isn't as wise as most of us thought.

The game probably didn't look any better on tv than it did in person in Scott Stadium.
The non-game highlights were meeting up with our intrepid CardBoard correspondent Jacket3ree and his family pre-game, and then in the post-game shuttle bus line, meeting former LSJU placekicker Nate Whitaker from the 2010 Orange Bowl team - he lives in Virginia now and is a new dad!
Later, in the lobby of the UVa campus hotel, we had a brief hello with Andrew Luck, Jim Plunkett and the new AD.

I've known people in that latter category. You can only give your direct reports so much rope...

During the BYU game the announcers made reference that Frank Reich had ask Andrew Luck to move from the coaches box down to the sideline. From my view having Luck on the sideline interacting with the players is a positive development both for the current group of players but also for recruiting efforts. The role of being a college football GM is new, there is operational manual, no road map no case studies to rely on as one goes forward. The effort on part of the GM at Stanford needs to be genuine, if that means that Luck appears to be coaching on the sidelines should not be interrupted into his desire to be head coach.
