I think Harbaugh took a pay cut to be USD’s head coach back in the day.  some coaches would rather be a head coach at a lower level than to be an assistant at a higher level.

looks like Taylor's total comp was $420K and $506K the last two years

And that can be a very good thing to do. If you have an idea you want to implement and you can't do it where you are, going out on your own is often the only way. It may be a risk, financial and otherwise, but if you believe, you have to do it. A pretty Stanford thing to do I would say :-). That said, it seems to have worked out very well for Troy Taylor!

You forgot losing by giving up the ball when you could have turtles.

Taylor has found players at Sac State. Why do some people think that he can’t recruit?

I mean, I dunno if he *can't* recruit, but I do wonder whether a four-star lineman in New Jersey will give much of a spit about Taylor... at least until he does something of interest nationally. But maybe Taylor is one of those rare guys who can [insert idiom about good salesmanship here]. If so, great stuff, sign me up.

Any word on who the coordinators and staff might be? Any coaches being retained off Shaw's staff? I would imagine Troy Taylor won't be getting paid top of market to start, so there should be plenty of resources to put together a high quality staff.

I never heard David Shaw talk about recruiting as the top priority focus it must be, and the "you're lucky to get an offer" (paucity of offers) approach obviously hasn't worked out so well. Will be interesting to see if the Harbaugh more offers, not less, approach will be taken by Taylor.

If not, he won't last long.

Article from the Salt Lake City Tribune on Wittingham and taylor, that supports Goose's comments on Wittingham's preferences versus Taylor's preferences.  Frankly...it sounds like a defensive-oriented coach who doesn't know what he's doing on offense, and Taylor sounds like an offense-minded coach who calls plays that would appeal to both Stanford fans and the kind of recruits we'd like to see. Hope he has time to get his recruits in the door.

What impact will landing 4+star Myles Jackson at QB from Millikan have on recruiting WRs, TEs, perhaps Linemen -- knowing Taylor is a successful QB coach and Offensive minded coach?  

Go get Derek Mason as DefCo from OKST. 
More interested in what Mason did for us (2010-13) than Mason did at Vandy and OKST.

If there's one thing I think we can count on, it's that Taylor will not punt inside the opponent's 40.

I congratulate the search committee and Muir on making what looks to be a good hire. I sincerely hope it works out that way.
