Clemente yes. Richard (singular) no. He however was headed to the Hall until sidelined by a stroke. Twice led the NL in strikeouts (both a shade over 300). I have film of his first start in the Bigs. He averaged just over seven K's per nine. Today he would average about 12 with his stuff and that would be a bad thing since fewer outs by grounder or fly has diminished the game.
Somebody on the radio (Fleming?) said that the most exciting play in baseball is the HR. I say fiddlesticks. The triple is. Anybody today can hit homers. Next is the stolen base.

Shoot, I knew all of those. Too late to the party. I have to spend less time working and more time surfing...I would add Josh Gibson, catcher. Had a stroke in 1946 and died in January, 1947. Just turned 35.

Good one, Mick. Indeed there are five hall of famers who were active players at the time of their deaths; Gibson played the 1946 season for Homestead and died during the subsequent offseason.

In the mid-50's a promising young player in a major pro sport passed away during the season. Who was he and what sport had he been most famous for?

Paul Brown had no patience because Garrett had a physical problem that could be worked around. Much later Brown stonewalled Walsh's career when he hired Bill Johnson to coach the Bengals. Bill got revenge on the Bengals twice in Super Bowls and once in the regular season when Montana hit Rice on the last play of the game. Famous footage of Walsh "skipping" off the field by NFL Films.
The NFL career leader for receptions by a running back began his college career as a wide receiver. Who is this player and why was he shifted to RB?

Marshall Faulk. I thought he was always an RB at San DigonSt.

Faulk was a RB in HS but recruited as aDB. SDS offered as a RB

Larry Centers holds the record but not sure about how the position switch came about, in fact I thought he had always been a RB. He didn't have a WR build at all.

Centers went to Stephen F Austin as a WR. Freshman year he broke his pinky and was relegated to the scout teams playing RB and safety. When a RB was needed the next year he was moved there and stayed there.
